Scribblelive (discontinued) vs. Storyblocks

I would be less inclined to recommend Visually to a colleague now than I would have in the past. In the past, highly skilled freelance programmers and designers were more able to get matched with potential clients. Now, things have to go through Visually and creators cannot post their independent work and get matched up independently.

Storyblocks is perfect for your advertisements, films, music videos, and any type of video media. It's also great for still imagery. I can't imagine someone not being able to find suitable material for their creative or corporate project. The best part is that with a subscription, you can download UNLIMITED assets. That's absolutely incredible, as most other stock sites require monthly fees as well as enormous costs per video purchase. With Storyblocks, every picture, song, sound effect, and image comes to you at no extra cost. It's not quite as good as iStock. I've used both, and the quality of iStock is ultimately superior. But for Storyblocks' convenience, it's almost as good.

• Staff picks were a great way of sifting through many pieces of content
• It was easy to share things uploaded to visual.ly to other social media channels
• There is an awesome amount of content on Visually

• Website is easy to navigate
• Enormous library of stock footage, images and templates
• Edit capabilities of video and audio within the website
• Customer service is great

• There is a bias towards infographics (as opposed to 'real' data visualization)
• It is not very clear the path between how people who need content get matched up or find creators
• Interface was redone too often

• There is an increasingly growing call for UHD (4k) video
• For audio downloads from favorites folders, I'd like to see a zipped or compressed option

I would recommend other design studios that specialize in data visualization and infographics before visually for a few reasons: - small design studios have an emphasis on the creators (who is part of the studio), whereas Visually is more of a black box because you don't know who is creating your project - Portfolio is okay, but not great, there are many other studios with better looking portfolios One way that Visually is better is that it has an impressive client list and quicker turnaround and maybe more streamlined feedback loops.

Storyblocks is significantly better for videos. Pexels is better for photography. Pexels doesn't have audio, so no competition there. I have found these two resources to be complimentary and great to use for client promotions and educational videos

• Was helpful in attracting clients when I started doing data visualization work
• Cost was minimal - it was free to upload and took little time
• I have been unable to attract clients lately from visually, so ROI has gone to 0

• It allows me to make more money by having an easy access to what I need
• Licensing songs or clips is extremely easy
• Storyblocks helps keep ads off of my content
