We use Aiven for Apache Kafka to have a full managed service that will allow us to take advantage of Kafka without having to worry about its complexities. It makes it possible to manage all the different types of events we receive and setup new ones in few easy steps, which can be replicated by all the teams in the company when needed, thus removing a bottleneck in the ingestion process.
Pros
- Easy to setup what is needed (eg: new clusters)
- User management is not overly complex
- Terraform integration was smooth
Cons
- Deeper level of granularity of user access rights is currently missing
- A bit pricey, especially for smaller setups
- Web UI is not easy to navigate at first
Likelihood to Recommend
Aiven is well suited for medium/big companies where the reliability for events coming in is imperative and choose to use Kafka but would like to avoid the most complex parts of the integration and instead have an easy setup.
It is less suited in my opinion for smaller companies, mainly due to its pricing.
