Overall Satisfaction with Aiven
We use Aiven for Apache Kafka to have a full managed service that will allow us to take advantage of Kafka without having to worry about its complexities. It makes it possible to manage all the different types of events we receive and setup new ones in few easy steps, which can be replicated by all the teams in the company when needed, thus removing a bottleneck in the ingestion process.
- Easy to setup what is needed (eg: new clusters)
- User management is not overly complex
- Terraform integration was smooth
- Deeper level of granularity of user access rights is currently missing
- A bit pricey, especially for smaller setups
- Web UI is not easy to navigate at first
- Reduced regular engineering maintenance on self-hosted Kafka cluster
- Provided better visibility on incidents thanks to the provided metrics
- Reduced lead time to change to 1 day by enabling easy setup for new events
