Autodesk Workshop XR
What is Autodesk Workshop XR?
Autodesk Workshop XR is an extended reality (XR) design review and 3D collaboration application developed by Autodesk for architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) teams. Workshop XR provides an immersive workspace where BIM managers, coordinators, and building engineers review 3D models at 1:1 scale to coordinate spatial layouts and identify design issues prior to construction.
Data Connectivity & Platform Architecture
Workshop XR connects directly to Autodesk Forma (formerly Autodesk Construction Cloud) via Autodesk Forma Data Management. The platform streams 3D models, files, project memberships, and issue tracking data directly from Forma environments without requiring file conversions or manual data exports. Supported file formats include Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Navisworks, and Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) files.
Immersive Review & Multi-User Collaboration
The platform operates across standalone Virtual Reality (VR) headsets and desktop web browsers:
Standalone VR Headsets: Operates as an untethered VR application on Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S, and Quest Pro headsets, enabling multi-user immersive reviews with spatial audio and avatar-based presence.
Desktop Web Application: Provides browser-based model navigation, file swapping, multi-user audio communication, and issue management without requiring a VR headset.
Model Interaction & Measurement: Allows reviewers to measure distances, inspect connected Building Information Modeling (BIM) data attributes, and toggle model categories (such as walls, roofs, or mechanical piping).
Live Issue Management: Enables users to create, assign, and update spatial issues during review sessions, with changes synchronizing live back to Autodesk Forma.
Product Succession & Migration
Autodesk Workshop XR is the successor platform for The Wild and Prospect by IrisVR (both acquired by Autodesk). Existing customers of The Wild and Prospect by IrisVR are migrated to Workshop XR as part of Autodesk's product consolidation.
