Avatao is one of the best platforms for new developers to have real-time scenarios to protect themselves from any potential security harms. A modern developed software, intuitive platform compiled of relevant up to date content which helps to build and maintain good development skills. It has all the best features that teach developers real-life scenarios on how to avoid common security fails in the development of software.

  • It gives a lot of liberty to developers to do things according to their needs and requirements to check whether it is a good approach or not.
  • I am using this tool for developing software and it has been a great platform for us in doing work especially.
  • It is compiled of all the best tools and provides a real time exercises to check codes easily.
  • Easy to use and user-friendly.

Cons

  • [I feel] it needs to be more functional while integrating with other platforms. Not the biggest drawback but there is a need to add more languages to it like PHP, Go, and Scala which is also very much developed and used in the organization.
  • [I believe] the support team needs to be more active and responsive while dealing with the customers.

Likelihood to Recommend

Great functionalities with a full approach to different programming languages along with features to making changes to the code to make it successful and amazing. Have been using it for a long time and satisfied with their services a lot. Some functionalities need some changes otherwise it is a great platform. I recommend this tool to others businesses.

I use Avatao on a monthly basis. It helps me keep my IT security knowledge up to date. The hands-on experience provided by avatao helps the deep understanding of the broad area of IT security. The user interface is intuitive, and I found it convenient. It helps getting quick practice in areas where I lack practice.

  • Not available for personal use anymore

They offer a wide range of topics. Almost everyone in the IT security field can find something useful. Starting from web AppSec through secure code development to exotic topics like file format reverse engineering or IoT hacking, there is a pretty wide range of interesting topics. Even though it takes more time to do these hands-on challenges compared to just reading about the topics, in the end, your knowledge will be deeper, and it will take more time to forget.

Great platform for learning about IT security

I use the Avatao platform to get better at secure coding, as well as improve my general IT security knowledge.

Pros

  • Interactive tutorials that make learning feel effortless and fun.
  • Wide range of topics covered.
  • Challenges are sufficently difficult and therefore exciting to solve.
  • If you get stuck, asking for help is easy and you are provided with just enough information to get going again.

Cons

  • Once your trial expires, you cannot do any tutorials or challenges.

Likelihood to Recommend

Avatao is an excellent tool for learning about secure coding and IT security in general. It can help you gain a lot of useful knowledge without feeling like it's a chore. The tutorials and challenges cover a lot of topics, at various difficulty levels. The UI looks nice and it's also user-friendly.

I have used the Avatao platform in cybersecurity courses to provide practical exercises in software security to students. The platform makes it very easy to create and deploy exercises in a wide range of areas (e.g., web security, C/C++ vulnerabilities). The user interface is intuitive, and students have generally found it convenient. The platform provides a safe environment, where students can experiment and gain first-hand experience with software security. I would definitely recommend it!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

All of our development teams have to complete some tasks on Avatao every couple of months. We use it to raise awareness about security and focus mainly on the OWASP top 10.

Pros

  • Hands-on exercises. We are far from any type of simulation or static content; Avatao provides real applications to train with and focuses both on exploitation and code fixing.
  • It is a great option for remote security training.
  • The modules represent real-life issues, which is an advantage.

Cons

  • They could implement Ruby in the exercises.

Likelihood to Recommend

It is good for overall security training. They allow you to target the training for many different tech stacks. The platform gives you much more than a video or tutorial. The core concept seems to be learning by doing, and that works pretty well. I haven't met any scenario where the platform is less appropriate.
