The Cisco WAP125 Access Points are great options for accessing a wireless network safely and inexpensively

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

The Cisco Small Business 100 Series Wireless Access Points solution has been used by the company since the COVID-19 pandemic. We had to work from home for a long time and with that the company decided to provide a Cisco WAP125 access point for us to work and access the intranet network and make videoconferences. The equipment is excellent, it has a very good signal coverage range that surprised me, the signal managed to reach the two floors of my house. The access point helped solve the work problem for us while unfortunately the covid-19 pandemic was critical in the world.

Pros

  • It features an 802.11ac access point with 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.
  • Installed on my desk.
  • An important step was to perform corporate authentication using 802.1x to gain access to the network.
  • It has the ability to create Vlans.

Cons

  • The WAP125 Access Point does not support more than 10 active users.

Likelihood to Recommend

It is an access point for home or small business line, but with security and reliability. It is inexpensive and manages to integrate with all Cisco features and systems for management, control and monitoring if necessary. It was used by us at home to work during the COVID-19 pandemic and it worked perfectly. Management can be done via command line or GUI interface.

The ideal wireless scenario with access points of low cost and high added value.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Cisco SMB 150 Series Wireless Access Points were sized through a Site Survey and installed in select administrative buildings to create a reliable WLAN network for staff and patient use. It's a job that took almost three months to scale with the Site Survey, and then the company bought and installed it in the buildings. We have been using it for more than one year to access the internet using mobile devices, notebooks, and desktops with Wi-Fi bundle. The Wireless network arrived to create the mobility scenario and offer users access to the internet while waiting for their medical appointments at the clinics.

Pros

  • One of the benefits was creating a wireless network for employees and another for the company's patients.
  • The creation of the visitor network was very well thought out. We create an exclusive vlan separate from the internal network that provides internet to the patient at a reduced speed.
  • We use a physical controller, but this WAP150 Access Point can manage a clustered mini-network.
  • Works at gigabit speed using 802.11ac protocol.

Cons

  • I see that this model does not have the ability to mitigate strong interference at 2.4 GHz.
  • It is a model that does not serve auditors.

Likelihood to Recommend

As an IT technician I was involved in the deployment and configuration of some access points. Work was easy to attach it to the ceiling and connect to the CAT6A network cable. The controller located in the main building transmits all settings remotely in less than 15 minutes to the access point and it is already operational. The WAP 150 has a compact style and looks great on the ceiling because the antennas are internal and radiate omnidirectionally to users. We created three networks, one 2.4Ghz, the second 5Ghz and the other exclusively for patients.

Compact access point, but very fast and reliable.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have been using some WAP150 access points in company branches for almost two years now. These are great value access points with Cisco quality and durability. Our scenario has a maximum of three per location and is enough to serve small branches. The WAP150 and other models we use in the company are managed remotely by Cisco FindIT Network Management software. These devices work in the 802.11ac wave protocol, which guarantees speeds of up to 1.2Gbps in the 5ghz radio frequency. It's ideal for small business scenarios and doesn't rely on a main controller because the access point can cluster up to four devices.

Pros

  • Compact access point with internal antennas and easy ceiling mounting.
  • They are reliable and fast access points that work on the 802.11ac wave protocol with speeds of up to 1.2gbps at 5ghz. But they also work at 2.4 GHz.
  • Allows you to create a cluster of up to 4 access points on site and thereby manage radio frequency, power, and other network resources.
  • Access points can be managed on management and monitoring platforms with Cisco FindIT Network Management.
  • Allows to be installation easily with ethernet network cable.

Cons

  • They are not ready for Wifi 6 - 802.11ax yet.

Likelihood to Recommend

After using the access point for a while, I can say that they are excellent and manage to deliver great performance, coverage radius and control from the management. Integration with Cisco Umbrella is another plus point because it helps protect against malware attacks. They are extremely compact, beautiful, and discreet equipment. The recommendation would be for smaller and medium scenarios that don't have such a high user density.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

In our case, we use the Cisco Small Business 100 Series Wireless Access Points solution in our more than 100 points of presence distributed throughout the country. In these sites we must handle the mixed complexity of administrative or commercial users as well as operational users who use different types of mobile devices to carry out their daily tasks. Additionally, we must provide connectivity to customers who visit us in our stores, who on many occasions must carry out operations through our online platforms.

Pros

  • Good price-product relationship.

Cons

  • Number of concurrent devices depending on the model.

Likelihood to Recommend

I believe that this solution gives us the best relationship between the cost and the quality of the product when used in sites with a small or medium extension and with a relatively low concurrence of devices. It allows us to continue having typical functionalities of the enterprise segment but at a very convenient cost.

Cisco: Mission Critical

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Cisco Small Business AP are the backbone of about 75% of the wireless service we offer. The devices are very steadfast and simple to administer. The sole issue we ran into were remote update issues. Sometimes the devices would contact abrupt during or after the process. A few of them were disabled due to poorly created files.

Pros

  • Access coverage is great.
  • Devices are simple to place and activate.
  • There weren't as many replacements required as with other products.

Cons

  • Quality control of available updates could use a tweak or two.
  • Functionality in legacy networks are not always the best.

Likelihood to Recommend

Because of the unique setup on our campus, these provide great coverage for our dorms, office areas, and smaller classrooms. However, in areas were the load was much higher, the devices could become overtaxed after about 25 users depending on the strength of the devices.

A great AP for small companies under 40 people or small brick-and-mortar businesses

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Before work-from-home, Internet deliverability was the no. 1 priority for any office. If employees can't get good Wi-Fi connections in every corner of the office, it leads to lost productivity, employee unhappiness, and also impacts the ability for teams to have meetings with customers and potential customers--directly impacting the success of those conversations, demos, etc. Wi-Fi access points are definitely a whole-company issue and are used by everyone, almost every minute of every day.

Pros

  • Encryption/Security
  • Coverage
  • Scalability
  • UI/UX simplicity

Cons

  • Meant for too small of a business
  • Lack of full control for IT team

Likelihood to Recommend

This is a great setup for a small business. It can be controlled by an app and doesn't require an IT person to really control and troubleshoot day to day. That said, we ended up going with another vendor as we do have technical people who work for us full time and we found at 50+ people we needed stuff that IT could really dig into and didn't need the friendly interfaces.
