A fantastic image manipulation service

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We needed an image manipulation service for a free-to-use system that would get a fair bit of traffic, but we couldn't afford to pay an arm and a leg for a competitor, especially since the images themselves could easily be hosted on our servers. By just providing the manipulation service with a fairly simple method for linking to our own hosting, Cloudimage fits our requirements perfectly.

This software is well-suited when images are hosted on your own server, but it is less well suited when requiring the "full package" such as manipulations, hosting, uploader, etc.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We were using another image CDN provider (not European) and really did not find a compelling offer from them after their huge price hike. Trying to go with a fast but European based provider, we found Cloudimage (French) to be very professional, with good onboarding, [and] plenty of precise settings to bend their solution to our exact needs. Cloudimage is very fast, pricing is based on real metrics, not arbitrary amounts. Support is reactive and friendly. Upgrades are detailed in blog posts every month.

Competitive pricing with progressive tiers
Good defaults but well organized interface to configure everything precisely

Cons

Having tiers based either more on source cache / CDN bandwidth (for some persons)

Use it if you have a ton of source images and need many transformations.

Don't use it if you only want to serve a few image[s] to a very very large number of users (CDN bandwidth costs)

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use CloudImage on our VueStorefront based eCommerce platform that uses a Magento backend. We have thousands of products, and CloudImage simplifies our image delivery to end customers. We need these images to be served quickly and without compression artifacts. Of all the issues we have had, image delivery, optimisation, and such has not been an issue with CloudImage at all.

Localised CDN Delivery.
Image Compression.
Pre-made Software Integrations.

Cons

Pricing.
Intermittent Dashboard Issues.
Image resize traunches. So 100px windows of resizing rather than pixel-perfect rescaling to save on cache size/delivery volume.

Likelihood to Recommend

We have thousands upon thousands of images across 15+ different sites, and not having to worry about compression and delivery is a huge relief. We serve lazy loading product listings (of sometimes 1000+ items) as well as up to 10 different images on a per-product basis. CloudImage is perfectly suited to this, and the lazy loading hasn't made CI so much as a hiccup. The service, once properly installed, hasn't let us down.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It was a solution to easily use CDN for images and the implementation was done with just an SQL request. So that was fitting our needs perfectly. The possibilities to resize images on the fly is also a must have of this solution and that’s why we recommend it obviously.
