At my organization, we work on tax returns and usually deal with client data and financial statements that is sent to us in image formats. We use DataSnipper to easily convert the data from images to Excel tables. In most cases, I find the tables accurate and easy to copy and paste into workpapers. Also when it comes to attaching pdf to tax workpapers as supporting documents, DataSnipper makes it easy.

Pros

  • Snip data from images and PDFs
  • Snip data from Tables into Excel Files
  • Attach PDF files to excel as supporting documents to validate numbers on tax workpapers.

Cons

  • Being able to use DataSnipper on other tools like MS Word and Adobe Acrobat
  • Be better able to work with low resolution files
  • Enable AI tools for better snipping and summarizing snipped data

I usually find new hires and staffs sometimes struggling with working on unorganized data or having to capture data from K-1s which go into their tax workpapers. For cases like these, DataSnipper becomes a very useful tool which can help to save a lot of time and also bring in accuracy to the workpapers.
