Microsoft Power BI is a visualization and data discovery tool from Microsoft. It allows users to convert data into visuals and graphics, visually explore and analyze data, collaborate on interactive dashboards and reports, and scale across their organization with built-in governance and security.
Tableau Desktop is a data visualization product from Tableau. It connects to a variety of data sources for combining disparate data sources without coding. It provides tools for discovering patterns and insights, data calculations, forecasts, and statistical summaries and visual storytelling.
Dimensional Insight products are used across the organization. We have models built for every application including Billing, Clinical, Surgical, Patient satisfaction data and anything we are required to support and report from. Analysts make reports available in the Diver portal but also users build their own reports by accessing models available through Divebooks.
In my experience, Dimensional Insight products are excellent. They are well suited to integrate data from multiple sources and allow for dissecting information based on dimensions defined. Once you understand the logic and the powerful functions available it is easy to use, specially if you get used to using integrated visual tools. The tunnels allow for selection of a subset of data from Diver portal and the dials are great to build markers and send files in different formats to users via email.
To support DI there is a need for someone that knows security and how to setup the programs and diveline but this is done with DI support help.
Internally developers need to have experience with programming; learning the specific DI logic and functions can be acquired working with a tool or attending a class. Analytical skills and knowledge of the data are important.
I don't have direct experience with the first time DI was implemented but on subsequent upgrades there have been positive experiences with support and seamless transitions to avoid users discomfort.
Overall support is very good. In cases where is a delay I have been notified of the status of it and what DI expert team is investigating. I might not get a fix right away depending on pending releases and when my company decides to plan for the upgrade but response time is good.
When upgrading to 6.4 version there was an issue with a drag box when running markers in the portal. The DI support team got engaged right away and they did a thorough investigation on the issue until it got resolved. They paid attention to every detail and the communication and response time were excellent.
Navigation thru the Diver portal is simple; some users have trouble but it also depends on how the analysts build models and present the reports with quickviews selections and report layouts.
I am aware of DI capability to access reports thru mobile devices but I have not experience it first hand.
