Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are seventy Prolian DL 380 that uses for our backup solution. This servers have its Network Managment Card, the ILHO Enterprise are its solution.We use HPE Systems Insight Manager for monitor and control usind de SIM Client run over the IHLO Cards and connect to HPE Systems Insight Manager Server deploy in a Host RedHat Linux Enterprise. The principal problem that resolv is join in one point of view for the System Administrator the all hardware events making for the servers's farm.

Pros

  • One point of view the events of servers's farm.
  • Tools that show an inventory update of hardware componenet of each servers.
  • Include a wonderful module that permit to upgrade remotely the firmware of all of them.

Cons

  • Proactive fail detection over power unit in DL 380 Server. The fail happened at night and the events was visible by SIM.
  • Monitoring of contrat support expiration for server's farm by SIM and notifiy next expiration contract by mail or SIM`s console.
  • Massive upgrade from one console to all of server connect so SIM

Return on Investment

  • Reduce the complexity of make updated an device inventory. Speciaclly for big technology platform.
  • Make more easier stressfull firmware update tasks.
  • Help to Technical area to make reports of policy compliant.

Pros

  • HP Systems Insight Manager is very good at scanning for devices and adding them for monitoring is almost effortless.
  • HP Systems Insight Manager is very good at detecting most HP hardware and integrating with local management software.

Cons

  • I think some of the areas that HP Systems Insight Manager can improve is non HP hardware.
  • This software also sometimes struggles handling larger environments.
  • This software also has issues managing environments that aren't set up perfectly.

Return on Investment

  • Since this software is free if you buy HP hardware the cost is nothing which is nice for cash strapped businesses.
  • This software has a somewhat difficult time handling large environments where systems are not configured perfectly for this software.
  • I would always recommend having multiples of this software installed for redundancy because generally unless it and the environment is properly configured it can require maintenance.
