Use Cases and Deployment Scope

HP IMC is being used to monitor our network infrastructure across our entire organization. This product helps us monitor the network proactively and also servers as a configuration back up tool that comes in handy when a network switch fails. HP IMC is vendor agnostic and provides some great features to keep taps on the network.

Pros

  • Stores equipment configurations to easily restore.
  • Quick notification of equipment status across the network
  • Trending information helps keep us proactive on possible issues.

Cons

  • Visibility of both LAN and WiFi network components.

Likelihood to Recommend

HPE IMC is well suited for network environments that need to support multi vendor equipment. It has the capability to gather full status information regardless of equipment brand. It may not be well suited for WiFi stats monitoring although this may change in the near future.

We use it for all our district infrastructure for campus switch networks. It takes care of our alarms, script change updates, reports and changes etc.

Pros

  • Alarm notification
  • Reporting and inventory
  • Easy GUI and very good with compatibility with other switched network
  • Easy management interface and maps

Cons

  • More Cisco switch support such as nexus

It is suited best for large enterprise networks, or where you will need visibility for down up scenarios. Topology maps that are needed are well suited for large WAN environments.
