IBM Cloud Developer Tools Review

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We chose IBM Cloud Continuous Delivery for continuous deployment of our apps. We were looking to save time and overhead with less downtime and automate our continuous delivery process. There were inconsistencies in our processes between teams and we wanted to standardize with a tool to manage everything as well with support.

Pros

  • Tool integration
  • Ease of use
  • Ability to copy templates

Cons

  • Set up time and integration took longer than expected
  • Documentation could be better
  • UI is sometimes not intuitive

Likelihood to Recommend

For the price you'd want to have several teams using this, and if you have multiple applications to deploy. A bit pricey if you are a small team with only 1-2 apps compared to other solutions. Also nice that you can access the tool remotely from anywhere given our distibuted global teams. It has helped to have a couple of in house experts to act as support for our teams as well.

IBM Cloud Developer Tools is now replaced by IBM Cloud CLI

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

A consulting customer wanted to deploy an app we developed in IBM Cloud. I had to learn how to use IBM Cloud Developer Tools such as the IBM CLI to access cloud resources easily.

This allowed us to manage the customer's cloud environment and deploy the applications from the command line. This is the standard for cloud providers nowadays.

Pros

  • Work in multiple platforms
  • Standard user interface, similar to other cloud provider CLI tools
  • Allows access to manage all IBM Cloud resources.

Cons

  • Cloud Developer Tools was deprecated as an installer, so product stability would be good.
  • Keep up with other providers such as AWS

Likelihood to Recommend

I would recommend IBM Cloud CLI which replaces IBM Cloud Developer Tools. If you need to build applications and services on the IBM Cloud, this is the first and most important step so you are able to manage resources from the command line, which is my preferred way of doing day to day operations on a cloud provider.

Likelihood to Recommend

It is a tool that I can recommend to anyone with the same field and I know they won't get disappointed with it because firstly it provides remote access and one can deploy swiftly from any location. It is suitable for large firms with massive services. It is not recommended to someone looking for cheap software of this kind as it is an extremely expensive tool. Moreover, its setup takes much longer time and this is infuriating.
