In our project, we are using IBM PowerHA SystemMirror to make our DB2 database highly available. We can't afford any downtime during production hours.
  • High performance during peak business hours
  • No downtime during critical business operations
  • Easy updates
When we were planning for our underneath OS migration from AIX 7.1 TL05 SP02 to AIX 7.2 TL02SP03 we moved the active database to another node. After failover, we rebooted the primary node and successfully upgraded the OS on the node. Once we perform the basic health check then we will fall back on the primary node in scheduled maintenance.
  • Database monitoring configuration in cluster
  • Cluster FS size can be easily extended
  • Auto-cluster snapshot, which takes regular backup of cluster configuration
  • There will is no single point of failure in PowerHA SystemMirror
  • High performance in PowerHA SystemMirror
  • TL upgrades are easy without any impact
There are multiple reasons that bring PowerHA SystemMirror upfront from other software. It's installed on IBM AIX, which is a high-resilience and high-performance operating system. Additionally, OS and TL upgrades can be easily done while using PowerHA SystemMirror.

As we are running with critical applications and databases including oracle, db2, and others. To make them highly available we are using Power HA System Mirror which is helping to run the environment with minimal downtime window in case of worst scenarios as well as in case of maintenance which is helping a lot in my business.
  • Resource group movement.
  • Application monitoring.
  • Problem determination.
In every organization, we have some of the critical applications in on Premise datacentre were a lot of dependencies in a picture in terms of application as well as a business where we can make highly available to this application by using Power HA Systemmirror by using this we can avoid last time surprises.
  • Application monitoring.
  • Resource movement.
  • Problem determination tool.
  • Reliable High Available Environment.
  • SAN Based Monitoring in terms of devices.
  • Network level check in terms of HA services.
As I am having long experience with this so no doubt, I am very confident for it where I can deploy easily and manage easily in terms of any issues can go with multiple logs and take further actions on it to fix the issue in a swift manner which matters a lot to me. That's why I have given higher priority to it.

PowerHA is used across the organization for our most critical apps. It is used to reduce downtime on our critical apps in the event of a system failure.
  • Reduces downtime
  • can automatically failover the apps and start them up
  • Lots of customization options
It is well suited if you have a mission-critical application that you need to keep running. While there will still be some downtime while it fails over, it is greatly reduced.
  • automatic failover
  • ability to DLPAR CPU and memory resources
  • customization
  • It does require two separate servers which is an extra expense
  • If there is a failure the downtime for the apps is limited

PowerHA is currently used by the IBM Power Infrastructure Support group for high-availability clustering and to replicate our user profiles to our DR infrastructure. Is also use for asynchronous geographic mirroring and space-efficient FlashCopy where we perform our backups.
  • Asynchronous geographic mirroring extends the host-based replication to our DR environment.
  • FlashCopy provide us with a point in time snapshot of our Production environment from which we can run our daily backups without downtime.
  • Since PowerHA runs at the kernel level it allows the system to send a message from the primary system to the backup or secondary system when the node has crashed.
If you have an environment where you have to replicate your Sybase I would recommend an implementation that includes MIMIX for PowerHA as part of the entire environment, but if you have a Sybase that never changes and you run all your applications on an iASP the IBM PowerHA SystemMirror is the solution for your business.
  • The inability to maintain our Sybase up to date with IBM PowerHA SystemMirror
We installed IBM PowerHA SystemMirror to perform the clustering and switching functionality.
