I have used Coupa for network optimization a while back, determining strategy related to where our facilities should be located, what facilities should support production for which markets, etc. I have recently used it for safety stock optimization and inventory strategy-related goals. The SSO models manage about $100M in inventory for the company I work for.

Coupa is well-suited for stable demand patterns. Time phased Safety Stock Optimization seems like it could use improvement. It is well-suited for making business decisions related to tradeoffs between inventory, lead time, etc.

  • Service level up
  • Inventory down
  • Sensing issues with our supply chain in near real-time
We evaluated a ton of other solutions; With some solutions, I liked their simulation aspects better. Coupa (formerly LLamasoft), can model with a duration-based service level target. That was the only solution I saw that offered that service level definition (Type 1: event-based, or Type 2: Quantity based)

Llamasoft Supply Chait Guru is currently used in the industrial engineering department to work on supply chain (network opt/transportation opt/inventory opt) projects. The college uses the student license to teach basic network and transportation modeling techniques to graduate students.
  • Easy to learn. The help menu is self-explanatory.
  • Very easy to import and export data and has multiple ways of modeling.
  • Nice visualizations.
  • Could add a bit more tutorials.
  • The student version has a limitation of 100 sites and 10 products.
  • Need to include simulation tutorial.
  • Need to include simulation modeling tutorial and sample models.
LLamasoft Supply Chain Guru is appropriate for teaching network, transportation modeling. It is very easy to learn and use.
  • Has been a good practical learning tool for students.
  • Has helped in getting jobs.
Initially used IBM LogicNet. Switched to SCG because of the extra features and also because Llamasoft bought IBM LogicTools
