What is LoadSEER?
LoadSEER is a geospatial load forecasting platform purpose-built for electric utility distribution planning. It helps distribution planning teams project electricity demand growth at circuit and substation resolution — incorporating electric vehicle adoption by charger type, distributed energy resource penetration, building electrification, and traditional load growth into a single, multi-scenario net load forecast.
Unlike operational load forecasting tools designed for energy procurement and short-term dispatch, LoadSEER is designed for the 5 to 20-year planning horizon that distribution infrastructure investment decisions require. Its bottom-up, spatial methodology models economic drivers, demographic data, and technology adoption at the parcel level — using a national building stock dataset covering every building in the United States — then aggregates to circuit and substation level to identify which specific feeders will be stressed, by which load type, and when.
The vendor states that LoadSEER is used by more than 15 major North American utilities, including Pacific Gas & Electric, San Diego Gas & Electric, Xcel Energy, Hawaiian Electric (HECO), Salt River Project, and Omaha Public Power District, for integrated distribution planning, IDP regulatory filings, EV load forecasting, DER integration planning, and capital investment prioritization. It integrates directly with CYME, Synergi Electric (DNV), and envelio's Intelligent Grid Platform for power flow analysis and capacity headroom assessment.
