What is MineTwin?

MineTwin is simulation, planning and decision-support software developed for open-pit and underground mining operations. It creates detailed digital representations of mines so that operational plans, fleet configurations, infrastructure investments and new technologies can be tested before resources are committed in the real operation.

CORE CAPABILITIES

  • Discrete-event simulation of mining activities, equipment movement, queues, delays and operational variability
  • Automated scheduling based on production targets, equipment availability and mine constraints
  • What-if analysis and side-by-side comparison of alternative scenarios
  • Fleet sizing, equipment allocation and utilization analysis
  • Modelling of drilling, charging, blasting, loading, hauling, crushing, hoisting and supporting activities
  • Interactive 2D and 3D mine visualization
  • Production forecasting, bottleneck identification and plan-feasibility assessment
  • Monte Carlo experiments for evaluating uncertainty and plan robustness
  • Excel reporting and imports from common engineering formats, including XLSX, TXT and DXF

DIFFERENTIATORS

MineTwin combines discrete-event simulation, linear programming and combinatorial optimization in a mining-specific environment. Unlike static spreadsheets and conventional schedules, it represents nonlinear dependencies such as equipment competition, congestion, changing haul distances, maintenance interruptions, variable cycle times and coordination delays. This allows teams to see how a decision in one part of the mine can affect the entire operation.

BUSINESS VALUE

MineTwin helps mining teams validate production plans, identify constraints, avoid unnecessary equipment purchases and compare improvement initiatives using measurable operational and financial indicators. The vendor states that its own MineTwin case studies report $262 million in fleet-optimization savings across six underground mines, a 7% improvement in projected mine NPV from autonomous-haulage analysis, a 10% improvement in annual planning accuracy and a 90% reduction in production-plan shortfall risk in a coal-mine study.

DEPLOYMENT AND AUDIENCE

MineTwin supports Windows and macOS and operates primarily as a desktop application, with optional server-based simulation for larger studies. It is intended for mining companies, mine planners, engineers, operations managers, technical-services teams, simulation specialists and mining consultancies.
