A reliable workhorse

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use this for a MySQL database access. We write queries and often need to use the SSH tunnel feature. We like that it's free and works well for the most part.

Pros

  • Readily available too for quick and easy SQL queries
  • Maintains upgrades
  • Works across multiple OS platforms

Cons

  • On the Mac version, quitting always throws an exception. More of an annoyance but still. This should have been fixed a long time ago.

Likelihood to Recommend

It works best when you need to create basic queries or manage an simple MySQL schema. For more complicated data modeling, I'll use another tool. You can't beat the price though.

MySQL Workbench - Good software for remote database connection

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

MySQL Workbench allows us to connect the database of remote and local servers easily. It allows easy features to check the table, it's schema, data and allows manipulation. We can easily view and modify data as needed. It is one of the best software to connect and manage data remotely.

Pros

  • Data Retrieval
  • Data Manipulation
  • Schema View

Cons

  • Error Handling
  • Connection of the database
  • Simple approach to view table and it's schema

Likelihood to Recommend

It is good software when we have to connect the database of the remote server but it is not as good as phpmyadmin. When local server is concerned, phpmyadmin is way better because it has more cleaner UI than Workbench. Workbench is preferred only because phpmyadmin does not support the connection of remote servers.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it to make various queries to our DB to get the data for analytical purposes.

Pros

  • Send queries to DB
  • Export results in csv

Cons

  • There are a lot of menus, some of them aren't needed or users who only need to send queries. I had to watch a videos on youtube to learn how to use workbench. It would be great to have some videos inside software (or links to videos on youtube)

Likelihood to Recommend

MySQL Workbench is good when you need to send queries to DB, get data and export them.
I personally don't have another needs, and cannot comment on other scenarios
