What is NextGen Healthcare EHR?

NextGen Healthcare provides ambulatory practices of all size solutions along with dedicated support and professional services. NextGen® Enterprise EHR offers practices configurable clinical content, workflows, and an integrated patient experience platform that incorporates telehealth. With NextGen® Mobile, providers’ smartphones become an extension of the EHR, saving time. NextGen has its own fully integrated solutions that provide dictation, speech-to-text, direct to desktop and Ambient Listening AI technology. NextGen Mobile Pro provides these capabilities, replacing their need for additional integrated solutions. Managed cloud hosting keeps practices secure and makes upgrades easier, though on-premise options are also available.

NextGen® Enterprise PM supports patient registration and scheduling, eligibility verification, and pre-service financial clearance. It also provides rules-based charge creation, claims scrubbing and processing, and supports A/R management and collections and reporting.

Through integrating an EHR and PM system, the software helps to enhance patient engagement, better manage the practice's revenue cycle, optimize the management of its patient population, and expand communication with other healthcare organizations.

NextGen® Office is a cloud-based EHR designed to support practice growth, save staff time, and increase patient volume. The integrated clinical and billing platform features specialty-specific EHR content, mobile accessibility, a revenue cycle management system, and a patient portal.

Through the portal, patients can manage their care as they are enabled to go online to schedule appointments, request refills, schedule virtual visits, and connect with their providers.

Next gen review.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Next GEN as a provider to access health records, reviewing patients’ labs, charting, ordering tests, referrals, and in any aspect of a patient’s care. I am really unsure as to what this question means by asking what business problems the product addresses. My company, Next GEN, is used in multiple ways, including billing, registration, Next GEN AI, and more.

Pros

  • Ease of being able to chart with templates.
  • The RX system is particularly well easy to access and to send medication’s.

Cons

  • Some templates seem to have issues that have not been resolved.
  • With the new update, I feel it doesn’t function as well as the previous one, and it's harder to access and find things, or navigate.

Return on Investment

  • The billing system ensures accurate billing and generates revenue within our office.
  • The billing system is just overall efficient.

Usability

An Integrated Practice Model for primary care & behavioral health

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use NextGen Office software to help facilitate running an integrated primary care office and a behavioral health therapy office. All employees from providers to front office use this program as our EMR system. The system is used daily.

Pros

  • Good coordination between both office locations. Each side can view the other & see what the patient has scheduled.

Cons

  • System issues. Seems like every time there is an update he system goes down completely, or something within the EHR side of things gets messed up. It has been everything from coding, tasks & messages, patient's charts, scheduling, and so forth. When this happens the clinic comes to a sort of stand still. It is very disruptive.

Return on Investment

  • NextGen has helped us streamline billing & monthly invoices thru InstaMed, as well as it helping to make payments easier for patients.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use NextGen Office for our EHR and our PM systems for our private practice of 9 providers and approx 45 staff.

Pros

  • Templates for charting

Cons

  • Ambient AI for dictation/charting for providers has not evolved as quickly as others.
  • Multiple notes required for EHR side and PM side of same patient chart.
  • Tasks and messaging is NOT user friendly, especially when a group of recipients is involved.

Return on Investment

  • Allows us to have some remote work options, which increases our productivity.

NextGen EHR for Ambulatory Offices

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use NextGen EHR as our ambulatory medical records system. Currently, all physicians clinics in our organization are using NextGen. NextGen works. It isn't flashy, it isn’t super feature rich, and has plenty of issues. In fact, we spend much more time troubleshooting issues than we do with Cerner (which we use inside the hospital). Support is meh, there is a large learning curve, and a lot of things NextGen should be taking care of support-wise (such as monitoring server resource usage), they don’t. When it works, it’s alright. When it doesn’t work (often), it’s frustrating.

Pros

  • Ambulatory EHR
  • User management
  • Breaking up software components into individually managed modules

Cons

  • Password management (resets)
  • Server Maintenance
  • Support
  • SLAs

Return on Investment

  • Requires more support staff than other EMRs (-)
  • Allows easy patient portal access (+)
  • Requires frequent add-on purchases for every little feature you’d like to add. Bill increases every few months (-)
