OpenCode is an open-source AI coding agent for developers working in the terminal, desktop application, web interface, or supported IDEs. It helps developers understand codebases, plan changes, implement features, refactor code, run development commands, and review or undo agent-made changes within an existing project.

OpenCode is model-agnostic. Teams can connect their preferred LLM providers and local models, or use OpenCode Zen, the company’s optional managed selection of models tested for coding-agent use. This allows organizations to choose models by task, cost, privacy requirements, or existing provider commitments rather than being limited to a single model vendor.

The product is designed to work with repository context. It can analyze a project, create and use project-level instructions, load language-server information for relevant programming languages, search files, explain unfamiliar code, and use file references in prompts. Developers can ask it to produce an implementation plan before granting permission to make changes, then move into a build workflow to edit files and run shell commands. It supports iterative work through plan and build modes, as well as undo and redo controls for agent changes.

OpenCode also supports multiple specialized agents. Its built-in Build agent has access to development tools for implementation work, while the Plan agent is restricted from file edits and shell commands by default. Additional subagents can research, explore a codebase without making changes, inspect external documentation and dependencies, or perform customized tasks such as code review. Teams can configure agents with their own prompts, models, tool permissions, and iteration limits, and can run multiple agents or sessions in parallel on a project.

For organizations, OpenCode Enterprise supports centralized configuration, single sign-on, and routing requests through an internal AI gateway. OpenCode states that it does not store code or context data: processing occurs locally or through direct calls to the selected AI provider. Organizations can disable its optional conversation-sharing feature and restrict use to approved internal model infrastructure.

OpenCode is suited to individual developers and engineering teams that want a configurable, provider-independent coding agent for codebase exploration, feature development, refactoring, debugging support, code review, and multi-agent development workflows.
