We are end-users of Oracle, as it is used by one of our Clients. This program is used for the management of construction-related projects, the issuance of contracts, changes, monthly draws, and hold-back applications. It also manages documentation related to compliance and contracts compliance, H&S back up, and more.
  • Contract Management
  • Progress Billing
  • Construction Management
  • Change Order Issuance
  • Payment Applications
  • Ability to request a change.
  • Upload of documents directly by the end user.
  • Direct inquiry of the client on a draw.
This program is well suited for online database management for construction-related fields and their contract management. It has many features which allow for reporting, issuance of changes, applications for payment and HB, and related construction-related documentation for both client and user. It also allows one to print and review in PDF any required documentation needed as per contracts.

I currently work as an online Oracle ERP Manager for a Saudi company whose main business activity is contracting and construction. The company has many projects of different types like MEP projects in which the project managers use Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management for managing and supporting the project management tasks for tracking and following up the work from start to end.
  • Defining the key strategic objectives and presenting them in measurable ways.
  • Using configurable workflows to manage the project milestones and deliverables.
  • Tracking the status of activities and sharing the latest performance results to the related stakeholders.
  • Reviewing the portfolio performance and comparing the current case with the past and the future data to identify the gaps and potential problems to handle and overcome them in effective and efficient ways.
  • Adding more advantages and features for better personalization and customization to suit both local and international standards.
  • Supporting more languages especially the Arabic language.
  • Implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) Features for suggesting better decisions and leveraging the resources.
  • Having features of leveraging historical data and lessons learned for getting accurate information and effective decisions.
The scenarios based on my experience where Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management is well suited and the primary reason for using it is that most current decision-making processes do not effectively analyze and well use the data needed to link among the strategic objectives and the implementation plans so Primavera solutions can help on that by combining the best-practice work control processes and the suitable evaluation metrics with the possibility to store and analyze all the relevant data and information hence Primavera Portfolio Management helps to achieve the strategic goals and deliver the best value.

Oracle Primavera is the best software in the market used to track construction projects. Like most applications from Oracle, Primavera comes with rich functionality. Customers have the option to use the features which suit them and ignore the rest. Oracle has by far the largest suite of applications, catering to various facets of the Enterprise. Primavera comes with various dashboards, which help project teams stay on track.
  • Oracle has invested heavily in user experience. The Primavera application is intuitive and user-friendly.
  • Collaboration among the project teams can be enhanced with an integrated social network, where users can share documents and tag comments.
  • Project budgeting, costs, capitalization, expenses, embedded analytics, and data visualizations come in built-in with the software.
  • The software is high end with rich features, hence its rich price.
  • There is room for improvement in their customer service.
  • Oracle is doing its best in coming up with new features, and has a planned roadmap. It would be good if the enhancements are delivered faster.
Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management has high security and comes with role-based access control. It has all the features of a comprehensive project management software like a work break down structure, Gantt charts, dashboards, business process automation, resource allocation, and analysis. The software is scalable for any number of projects. The project outcome can be improved by the use of Primavera as it will optimise resource allocation. However, this software is on the high end of pricing and not a cheap alternative.

Primavera is used in my company to build, manage, and analyze project schedules. P6 is used widely in our product management R&D across the company. P6 is helpful in the regard that it houses our project schedules for planning and controls. Because we are able to better predict our major deliverables, we can become better meeting our customer expectations.
  • Project Scheduling
  • Resource Management
  • Portfolio Management
  • Analysis
  • UI Experience
  • Integration
Good for: Enterprise, because you can aggregate multiple projects.
Bad for: Personal Use, the UI isn't as friendly for the novice or personal user.

It is currently used to track all of our projects through execution. It is used by all engineering departments. It solves the problem of not knowing when your products are going to be done!
  • Manages execution.
  • Track inter-dependencies.
  • Gives accountability.
  • Scheduling.
  • User-friendly.
Oracle Primavera is well suited for organizations that are dealing with lots of data. Smaller scale organizations could use something like Microsoft Project that may be more cost effective.

We use Oracle Primavera 6 across our organization to manage schedules for the projects we build as a company.
  • Primavera as a scheduling software can manage large project schedules regardless of complexity.
  • P6 is powerful enough to identify the longest pathway to the completion of a project. This is also known as CPM.
  • P6 can handle multiple scenarios and save them as a separate baseline schedule. This can be helpful for figuring theoretical sequences.
  • P6 is not as intuitive as other scheduling software. It usually requires someone who is trained in the program to use it exclusively.
  • P6 can have multiple versions of the baseline schedule. This is not intuitive like saving a file, which usually leads to confusion.
  • P6 is very costly for smaller companies to afford.
P6 as a scheduling software is very useful to manage construction projects. I've used it exclusively for construction projects and it has been successful in influencing how projects are sequenced.

On the other hand, it can be cumbersome to use and still requires a dedicated "P6" person to set up the initial schedule.

I am currently a system administrator for Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management on a government contract. It is the primary tool within the agency, robust in ability, but a bit limited in user friendly feel and ease of use. It offers the client the ability to manage all levels or portfolio management, such as financials, deliverables, resources, workflows, document management, and much more. For the backend user, sql and javascript knowledge is essential, but not mandatory, as the built in help does allow the novice developer to get by.
  • CAC authentication is required in my arena, and OPPM can work in conjunction with a secondary application to allow for this added layer of security.
  • Allows for security/permissions by customizable roles via user types and user groups. This keeps users in check with only certain abilities to edit or read, etc...
  • All kinds of abilities to build custom reports, as well as built in. Export formats include: CSV, Excel, PPT, Word. Customers like reports, and OPPM does a good job at its offerings.
  • Visual aids such as charts and graphs offer some eye appeal. This is useful for presentations, for depicting data.
  • Has the ability to offer document storage via attachment. Attaching supporting documents is a must with portfolio management.
  • We are in a portable age, but OPPM is not an option for use on mobile devices.
  • OPPM workflow is not extensive compared to other products, only offering linear ability.
  • Front-end is fairly vanilla with few clicks and clean interface. Due to limited browser support, users often have difficulties when browsers upgrade or settings are changed.
Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management is a utilitarian product of a yesteryear gone by. It's straightforward and to the point. It is well suited for a customer base who is not interested in frills, portability, or a multitude of OOTB ability. It's for those who like to restrict and manage all control over users, code in queries, functions, and create customized reports for end users. It does what it does very well however, just do not expect it to be pretty. It's a 2007 product, so curb your excitement. It does handle all aspects of portfolio management well; financials, budgeting, spend plans, contracts, projects, staffing, workflows, etc... however, it is not intuitive to navigate, and will require some training.

Oracle Primavera is primarily used my internal innovation stakeholders in order to manage internal cross-functional new product launches, services, or enhancements. It helps to solve the problems of launching the aforementioned projects on-time, within a budget, and in line with its scope. It is used as a centralized hub in order to manage, organize, and create reports for projects.
  • Project Task & Graphics Manipulations
  • Relatively Responsive in Comparison to Similar Tools
  • Simple Information Extraction
  • The system feels a bit manual at times, primarily in entry.
  • Graphics could used to be spruced up to deliver more professionally looking outputs.
Certainly well suited for Project Managers, Product Managers, Brand Managers, and Portfolio Managers working on multiple projects leading cross-functional teams. Less appropriate if your projects are less complex, you'll spend more time doing data entry more than anything.

Oracle Primavera was used across the whole organization. This was introduced as a cloud based solution for program management.
  • Ease of usage and navigation.
  • Excellent reports functionality.
  • Cloud implementation is supported.
  • Scalability issues as we had to restart the application.
  • JVM issues and the Java process has to be killed manually to get Primavera work.
[It's a] good solution for a company looking for an enterprise-wise rollout of a portfolio management solution and to save cost by a cloud implementation instead of in-house.

We use Oracle Primavera across several business units to plan and forecast our project activities, durations, progress, and resources. It is used to identify delays in the project.
  • Critical Path Methodology will identify potential issues in on time completion if activities move.
  • A resources loaded schedule can accurately forecast % complete and staffing requirements.
  • Coding allows easy group, sort, and filtering when reporting to certain business units out of the same file.
  • Reporting functions and graphs are basic. We dump the data from Primavera to Excel. In my experience most companies have this practice.
  • Import/export functions need greater options.
  • Risk module needed instead of secondary software.
Primavera is well suited for any size projects. The only time I can see it being less appropriate is when the cost of the software and maintenance agreement add significantly to the overall cost. Smaller projects could use a cheaper tool to get the job done depending on level of detail the client is looking for.

P6 is being used by our entire organization. P6 allows our large organization's many schedules to be accessible across the organization and by multiple users at a time. P6 is a powerful scheduling tool that handles large and small projects, at any level of detail. P6's improvements over previous versions make the software more user friendly and more stable than before.
  • P6 allows the schedule to be built on the project site and to be accessed remotely by upper-level management and the scheduling department for review. This allows our large organization to operate off the same schedule without worrying about multiple versions, and without any hassle.
  • P6 is a flexible software. It performs well on large and small projects. Large projects do not lag, and the WBS structure allows the schedule to stay organized.
  • P6 is improved over previous versions in the ease in which changes can be saved or un-done. Mistakes can be easily fixed and reversed.
  • Some of the views in P6 are hard to adjust.
  • Printing from P6 can be difficult.
Primavera P6 is a very flexible software. It works well for all sizes of construction projects.
