What is PlaceZap?
PlaceZap is a web-based geography guessing software designed for corporate team building, educational applications, and social events. The platform utilizes Street View locations, allowing hosts to select specific global or region-restricted coordinates from an interactive map to create custom challenges. Participants join via a browser-based access code, which removes the requirement for account creation, email registration, or mobile application downloads.
The software employs Distance-Based Scoring, where points are awarded based on the proximity of a player's guess to the actual coordinates. Accuracy is tracked and displayed on a Real-Time Leaderboard that updates as each round concludes. According to the developer, PlaceZap is intended to provide a structured event format for geography-based challenges, offering hosts administrative control over round counts, timer durations, and landmark selection.
The system is built with a privacy-focused architecture; the vendor states that no personal contact information, such as phone numbers or email addresses, is collected from players. Use cases for the platform include remote team engagement, geography education in schools and universities, and conference icebreakers.
PlaceZap is offered in three commercial tiers—Single Event, Five-Pack, and Annual Unlimited—each supporting an unlimited number of participants. A free version is available for evaluation with a three-player limit and requires no credit card for access.
