Good support and options available but sometimes spotty support
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
I used the Openstack platform for the Rackspace platform for a virtual private server on their public cloud end of things. I was using it to test out some applications for websites and wanted to have a cost effective way to get it up and running. I needed something more robust and had used Rackspace for other services before using their Openstack platform, which seemed to be the way to go. Super simple to get it up and running, did not take long at all.
Pros
- Quick uptime
- Simple Signup
- Lots of options on what you need
- Rackspace is a known company (not some unknown startup)
Cons
- Support does not seem to be what it use to be, use to be a solid 10 when dealing with them, now more like an 8
- Pricing can be tricky to figure out
- For some people too many options.
Likelihood to Recommend
Need to get an application up and running, then I would say the open stack is a great place to test it out. Why spend time setting things up when you can let them do it for you? Many people also have experience with using Rackspace in some capacity so its an easier learning curve for many people.
