Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I have to manage and present report analyses coming from different projects. Rational BI allows for the creation of useful reports and dashboards and sets up automatically scheduled report delivery to all stakeholders. Managers and collaborators share easily a lot of information in a rational view with the possibility to customize the arrangements.

  • Different user profiles are needed.

Rational BI allows managing data analysis coming from different projects in order to create useful reports and dashboards. I usually set up automatically scheduled reports. All the stakeholders can easily share a rational view with the possibility to filter between the interesting arguments. Sometimes different user profiles could be needed, optimize the view.

We use rational BI to drive insights into customer usage of our products and services and identify their pain points through data metrics. Rational BI provides a quick and easy to setup reports and dashboards that can help track meaning KPIs for improving performance of our offerings and customer experience.

Rational BI is well suited for building stories from data originating from individual spreadsheets or cloud applications, data sources like Google Apps, Amazon S3 etc. Rational BI also helps to tailor and easily manage the analytics views and permissions for different audience in the organization while providing a single source of truth.

At the time we bought Rational BI we were a rapidly expanding company. With the increased company size we needed to be more data-driven and we also need to make more decisions based on data rather than gut feeling. One of the things we did to encourage colleagues to make decisions based on data was BI and actually showing graphs and numbers on a large screen.

Pros

  • Nice graphics that are quite easy understandable for viewers.
  • The level of customization is great. You really have the option to build the board with the graphical elements you desire.
  • Integrations with systems that we used. As a small company, we don't have many complex systems but generally more basic solutions. The Dropbox integration made it really easy for us to get started and it's working without problems.

Cons

  • Documentation for new users could be better. Sometimes it's hard for my users that are not that skilled in IS/IT to set up data connectors are understand the dynamics of data sources.
  • I have used several other BI solutions as well, and their GUI is okay, but surely there is also room for improvement here. Not all things are made entirely logically.
  • Understanding their price structure. Generally, their website looks nice, but it's not very informative when it comes to pricing, and support options. I really miss some kind of transparency and overview.

Likelihood to Recommend

Definitely well suited for small companies, but again many of their competitors are also well suited in this segment. We were in general happy with the solution provided, but I'm not blown away by their solution or support. If you want to get more data-driven visual boards with data displayed in nice graphics is in my opinion a good start, and here Rational BI delivers what it should.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Rational BI is used in various reporting manners. It allows you to segregate users and or groups, to provide them with reporting and data analytics for the specific use case. It also provides highly customized data visualization providing graphing, flow charts, etc. Great for data governance which can be imported into a company portal if so desired.

  • Secure sharing mechanism between groups or users.
  • Create reporting on a specific product.

Cons

  • Not seeing anything at this time, comprehensive product.

Likelihood to Recommend

The supply chain right now is a very good area where Rational BI would prove very advantageous. Also, you can be very specific with a particular product to provide insight on how well it's doing or where it may need improvement. Great chart graphing as well.
