One stop for Redash

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used it to query out data and build dashboards. It was used for instant mini queries, save large queries and monitor dashboards.
Starting from performance dashboards to fetching user details by an associate. We were using the visual features like line graphs and bar graphs. And downloading the exports as well.

Pros

  • Extract data
  • Monitoring dashboards
  • Saving queries for others

Cons

  • At times, the response time for the query takes more than a minute
  • Dashboard refreshes used to take time
  • Auto indentation was not there

Likelihood to Recommend

Redash is well suited to situations where metrics are tracked on daily, weekly and monthly basis. Alerts can be set to emails which helps stakeholders to monitor performance on a frequent basis. It is less appropriate for cases where only dashboards are needed. Redash comes into picture where individuals can query and check data at the same time.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Redash as a reporting tool for our reservations database which allows us to pull reports to better be able to analyze the information about purchasing trends and other buyer behavior in line with the reservations and interactions from our team on them (management of changes, cancellations, issue reporting) but as well to provide detail around purchasing trends.

Pros

  • Detailed Reporting.
  • Real-time data.
  • Vast array of reporting.

Cons

  • A user friendly interface.
  • No need to know how to code to generate a new report.

Likelihood to Recommend

I'm not a coder and have little to no knowledge of development tools so each time I need to create a new report or edit an existing report I need to like someone from our development team for assistance. If Redash had a more user-friendly way of creating and editing reports it would save me and my team time and resources.

A elegant, fast and easy to setup reporting tool

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

The Redash is used as an internal reporting and querying tool for our internal management data including monthly financial reports, incident reports, security reports as well as incidents monthly reports. Since it's not the most powerful reporting engine, it's mostly restricted to give quick small queryable results and does not serve as a very big data source.

Pros

  • Great Query Editor with Autocomplete feature
  • Very easy to setup and quickly connect to variety of data sources
  • Quick Dashboards with Simple UI which can be easily shareable

Cons

  • Dash boarding feature can be improved with complex logic and parametrized filters
  • It's not a easy BI tool if we don't know SQL but relies on UI features
  • User Management Module can be improved as basic level of segregation is there.

Likelihood to Recommend

Redash is good in following conditions: Amazing query editor with lots of auto-complete feature for SQLDoes not require hassle and provide an easy interface to connect to various DB Good integration points with various DB's Easy and Simple Dashboarding functionality It lacks in following areas: Dashboarding and Reporting feature is not that extensive [fewer] filters for Periodic filters as well scheduled reports

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Like any business, we are also required to have different kinds of reports for sales, marketing, and even at tech department. To create different reports for different people and then creating a frontend to view those reports then updating automatically is a big headache. But with Redash you can just query and create different reports as well charts and share across teams.

Pros

  • Great SQL editor easy to use
  • The setup instructions are clear and anybody can set it up easily.
  • Drag and drop to create different dashboards and resize them.

Cons

  • You need to have a good command over SQL to use Redash but if there could be some way where people can just pull data and do slice dice.
  • It would be nice to have an excel kind of filters when all data is fetched.
  • Some things like easy to customise the column names.

Likelihood to Recommend

So if you don't have time to create a fancy dashboard but have a great knowledge of SQL and just want some raw reports and good looking dashboard quickly then just go for Redash. You can add different people and share the dashboard among them with different kinds of alerts to send reports to people.
