SAP Datasphere.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I am from a product-based organization. We are using SAP BW and migrating from BW to SAP Datasphere. Mostly in SAP Datasphere, we create data models and merge data from different sources, whether from SAP, Non-SAP, or even Excel. We consolidate all the data in Datasphere to model it according to business requirements, create an Analytical Model, and then visualize it in SAP Analytics Cloud for reporting.

Pros

  • Data modelling.
  • User friendly (Good UX).
  • Easy to design.

Cons

  • More data modelling features similar to SAP BW.
  • Time dependent drawbacks.
  • Loading huge data in Local table of datasphere is difficult for e.g. master data's.

Likelihood to Recommend

SAP Datasphere is, from my point of view, a data modeling tool, but it lacks many features found in SAP BW. BW can store large volumes of master or transaction data, but pushing that data into SAP Datasphere is difficult. We push data from BW to SAP Datasphere and report the data in SAC after modeling. Mostly, we face issues in loading data into the local table in SAP Datasphere.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are using Datasphere in multiple scenarios. We use it for the data transfer from S/4 systems to SAP Signavio with replication flow feature. We are also using Datasphere modeling feature for the application area sustainability where we integrate the data from SAP BW and flat files and calculate the KPI's related to sustainability and transfer the data to SAP control tower. so in summary we use Datasphere for modeling as well for the data transfer to external SAP/non-SAP systems.

Pros

  • direct integration with S/4 systems and using RDB( resilient data buffer) for delta tranfer is really cool feature.
  • supporting data transfer to external systems via premium outbound flow. So we can transfer the data to Datasphere once and can handle the data requirements from multiple systems very efficiently
  • Integration with SAP Analytics Cloud via live access for the dashboarding requirement is another cool feature
  • looking forward to new innovations with seamless planning. in my former organization, we have used seamless planning to store the planning data from SAC in Datasphere and further modelling ( complex logic ) inside Datasphere .
  • space concept for the segregation of responsibilities between IT and user and sharing the model with other space is good direction for the future and reduce the dependencies on the IT

Cons

  • i always feel that the features in BW are hard to replace in Datasphere. for example, the info object concept with attributes, text, hierarchy is irreplaceable and with navigational attribute and display attribute, modelling was smooth. Building equivalent in Datasphere is not that easy
  • support for modern programming like python is limited and not much support for debugging. it is very challenging to debug the python (script )logic inside Datasphere space
  • i would love to see more options for the data transfer to non SAP systems ( outside of premium outbound flow )
  • i would love to see more collaboration with Microsoft stack like power bi

Likelihood to Recommend

We encountered a situation where we had to decide a strategy at organizational level for the data transfer from S4 systems to various SAP and non-SAP systems and data lake solutions. SAP Datasphere with replication flow address this very problem effectiely. with RDB, we transfer the datasphere once via delta ( raw data), and every system can fetch the data for their respective use case and build further. it resolves the data integration ( extract once and share many times ) problem very efficiently

SAP Datasphere the next Gen Data warehouse concept

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

SAP Datasphere (DSP) is the next generation of SAP Data Warehouse Cloud (DWC), in our organization we have connected our S4HANA, BW4HANA for our sustainability use case, here we are extracting data from above sources to accelerate our analytics into cloud, and we are further feeding our data into SAC models and also to SCT (Sustainability Control Tower).

Pros

  • We can accelerate our analytics with power of storing in cloud
  • CDS view with real time replication
  • Integration with SAC - Analytic Models, OData Connections (Bi-directional)
  • Object reusability, also there is no need of storing physical data

Cons

  • It has very limited advance modeling compared to SAP BW
  • When the data volume is huge, OPD performance and stability is inconsistent
  • It heavy depends on Sap Analytics Cloud for querying, whereas BW has it own query designer

Likelihood to Recommend

If we are looking for near real time data, with less complex business logic then SAP Datasphere suits well, also SAP's future thinking on the brining on one bucket which is Business Data Cloud, can be integrated with SAP Joule (AI capabilities), then the report/ dashboard creations will be much faster and more efficient.

Great product

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use SAP Datasphere for multiple reports within the business. It allows us to customize a report quickly or build a new one quickly. The deployment is also quick and then because it runs in the browser anyone can access it easy. We use it for most of our reports so that a developer doesn't have to code something.

Pros

  • good visuals
  • quick deployment
  • ease of build

Cons

  • hard to learn at first

Likelihood to Recommend

SAP Datasphere works great for any place a custom report is needed. Our FI team loves reports and we can get them one say on most used vendors or materials. We have not found many scenarios where we can not use it yet.
