Short.io is used to be able to share in an easier way to share course links, the business problems it addresses are the following: there are programs that do not allow you to share long links. Its scope of use is: universities, colleges, schools and businesses, law firms, and doctor's offices.

Short.io adapts well in business scenarios, in educational scenarios to do research work it is a very good tool, either for university or college educational level, likewise, it does not adapt well in medical research scenarios, nor in scenarios when it comes to using different types of web pages.

We use it to shorten links and send them out for marketing abs communication purposes. The tracking of the links also helps us to determine if our marketing efforts are worthwhile or need to be adjusted.

Short.cm makes your long links shorter

Short.cm is used in my organisation to shorten long links while working on customer support contacts where the text message character limit is only 260 letters. Also, it is a great software that readily provides shortened links which are useful to present on documents, presentations, and Zoom meetings. It helped me and my organisation save a lot of money by avoiding sending while responding to customers.

Pros

  • Shorten long company's self support/help article links.
  • Provides specific/curated domains for different businesses/companies.
  • The links are customisable. Eg: https://ly.abc.com/ProjectReview.

Cons

  • Short.cm could have integrated themselves into daily apps like Gmail, Twitter, etc so users do not need to go to the website, shorten the link and go back to their messaging tool.
  • Request short.cm to provide more features in the basic/free version of their software.
  • I do not see Short.cm doing enough marketing for their software to be used by general internet users.

Likelihood to Recommend

Short.cm is best suited where you need to type something with a character limit and you can't afford to add long links. Instead, you can shorten the link using Short.cm and paste it into the messaging app. Example: Twitter has a character limit for tweets. Short.cm is less appropriate for apps like Gmail, Slack, etc that have an inbuilt hyperlinking mechanism making Short.cm's usage is very minimal. (My personal experience).

We integrate Short.cm with Slack so that our chat conversations look better when using the URLs. For example, as a QA, if I find any defect and need to explain it to devs from the URL, it will be difficult to understand the URL sometimes and I use Short.cm to shorten the URL and make it understandable.

  • I would like to be able to hover over the short URL to show the original URL when the original is too big.

Likelihood to Recommend

It's easy to integrate and use and is very flexible with no downtimes seemingly. It is more useful for development and testing and less useful for business people as they want real URLs to be seen.

Everything you need for custom URLs + shortened links!

We use it in our own business to shorten links or customize the links that we share. I also set it up for one of my client's sales team as they were sending Loom videos via Instagram to their leads and the Loom URLs are long and ugly. Short.io allowed us to customize the Loom videos URL with the prospect's name, making it much more personalized and sharable.

  • Had some issues with the login page at one stage, it didn't seem very secure.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you want some basic analytics on the links you send (e.g. if you're on a sales team and you're sending 1:1 emails and want to know if someone clicked your link). If you want to customize a link URL for a specific partner or person. If you want to shorten your URL.

The links we send to customers include several lengthy (and ugly) tracking parameters. These long URLs look spammy when sent over text. Short.cm / Short.io condenses these links into short, aesthetic, custom branded short links that customers are more likely to click on. We also put these links in direct mail, which makes it a lot easier for the potential customer to type into a browser.

  • Difficult for non technical folk to purchase and register domains.

Short.cm / Short.io has a very intuitive user interface that anyone can pick up. The software has plenty of statistics and tracking options so you can evaluate how your links are doing. Short is well suited for any scenario where you're sending big ugly links to customers, whether it be via email, text, or physical mail.
