NX CAD USAGE OVERVIEW

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use NX for the plastic part design. We use for the plastic exterior component lie Energy absorber and aprons . Scope is in expression work for the lobe of the energy absorber.

Pros

  • NX is going in synchronous Modelling but not recommended by the OEM as it is nonparametric modelling.
  • For same use we have multiple option commands in NX.
  • Search toolbar good option in case we don't find any command.

Cons

  • NX2306 is needed to improve the Visualization icon of commands in history tree like in NX11
  • NX2306 need improve the constraints/relation in sketcher
  • In NX2306 Analysis for measure multiple solid bodies need to play much.
  • Constraint color and relations to be improved.
  • Thickness at point command need to be added.

Likelihood to Recommend

For leaning purpose, NX very easy. Multiple options are available for same command.

For making any feature we just need axis system and feature creation on the axis system and axis system is very easy to translate and rotate.

For measuring the part thickness at point, we need command.

For measuring the properties of body we need measure tool like NX11 in NX2306.

NX CAD : Great tool for 3D modeling

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I am using NX CAD for mainly

1. For modeling of 3D complex geometries.

2. For simulation and analysis of new designs.

Using NX CAD for simulation helps to evaluate the performance of products in terms of strength and durability before actual manufacturing which helps to save costs and product development time.

Pros

  • 3D parametric solid modeling, surface modeling and assembly modeling
  • Handling large assemblies and complex designs
  • Motion simulations to analyze and optimize mechanisms
  • Finite element analysis for structural and thermal performance

Cons

  • Improved documentation, including tutorials and user guides, could help new users navigate the software more effectively. Also intermittent sessions can improve the experience.
  • Customizing the interface and workflows can be challenging, advanced knowledge of software is required in such case.
  • Simulation capabilities can be improved in NX making its application widespread.

Likelihood to Recommend

NX CAD is well suited for products with complex designs because of ability of NX in handling large assemblies, parametric modeling which makes it suitable for automotive and aerospace industries.

It is less suitable simple 2D drafting and low complexity products as other software solutions may provide cost-effective solutions and quicker learning curve.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize the NX CAD software extensively for design and development of Automotive components. At present, the project deliveries and timeline are most challenging. The interconnected modelling and drafting modules helped to reduce project lead time and fulfil the promised deliveries. NX CAD is user friendly and provides better control on commands for generating complex Class A surfaces very effectively.

Pros

  • Rendering of components
  • Modeling of plastic components such as instrumental panels and Console
  • Generation of Complex Class A surfaces
  • Generation of splines and complex geometries
  • Integration of CAD and CAM

Cons

  • The tool has scope to develop an algorithm for generating surfaces from the point data.
  • Include of option to convert .STL to any CAD format will be helpful.
  • The time taken to open/save the assembly can be reduced.
  • The connectivity of splines laying in different planes can be improvised.

Likelihood to Recommend

There is perfect integration between NX CAD and NX CAM modules with less data loss. Better graphical interface and simplified commands makes NX CAD a better software then others.

The tool has scope to develop an algorithm for generating surfaces from the point data. Include of option to convert .STL to any CAD format will be helpful. The connectivity of splines laying in different planes can be improvised.

The direction is good!

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use the NX for Mold Designing. Start it with the product design via the mold design until the CAM programs. The most difficult the standard libraries keeping up to date.

Pros

  • new mold features, modules
  • associative, gateway
  • help documentation

Cons

  • measuring went wrong direction !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • sketch base.... !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • from model base went to sketch base the features

Likelihood to Recommend

Overall, a complex system that is very easy to use. It covers the entire process of engineering work. However, its licensing is quite fragmented.

NX CAD Review - from an academic researcher perspective

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We needed a CAD platform that works with the Siemens tool chain, that supports basic 3D modelling functionality, offers import and export capability for other types of CAD software, such as CATIA v5, Solidworks and PTC Creo etc, at the same time, offers the linked other properties, like mass, material, possibly further simulation functionalities.

Pros

  • 3D modelling
  • Mass property analysis
  • Sizing and tolerencing

Cons

  • Sizing and tolerence
  • Better coordinate system creation tool with mass property
  • Ability to configure product/assembly structure upon import

Likelihood to Recommend

NX CAD is very good when it comes to three dimensional modelling and rendering and visualization. Furthermore, the export to jt function together with import into other Siemens software packages, such as teamcenter, is a major reason why I am using NX. However, it can be a little more computationally expensive compare to other CAD packages.

For Smart Factory use

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our company is using Siemens NX CAD for designing processes, Template creation, or generating Drawings. Also it is used in our Automation line project for our new Engineering to Order Process. Also it is integrated into our Product lifecycle management process. Therefore we are using the Programming Interfaces NXOpen with Java.

Pros

  • Complex Assemblies
  • NXOpen API
  • Journal function

Cons

  • Less free tutorials in the Internet for NXOpen
  • Expression handling is hard
  • Multithread functionionalities

Likelihood to Recommend

As a beginner in NX Programming it is difficult to lern it without access to the solutioncenter. There should be more examples and Tutorials supported for a open community. Also the Journal function should generate more code which is dynamically then doing the a one shot command. This also could help for non programmers getting in contact with NXOpen.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use NX CAD for automated 3D and 2D modelling as well as creating templates in order to standardise the design process. We use complex Templates with thousands of Expressions in combination with PTS and Rulestream for quick and standardised construction processes. NX CAD is used in combination with Teamcenter (PDM/PLM Software)

Pros

  • customisation options fit our needs
  • Teamcenter integration
  • open api for c#

Cons

  • We would appreciate expressions for Tolerances
  • Multithreaded NXOpen
  • Improved Webservice support

Likelihood to Recommend

NX CAD does help us with our automation efforts of the product design processes and also supports digitalisation efforts in manufacturing, for example by using the CAM module. The Template options also help a lot reaching these goals.

We miss an easy way to integrate NXOpen in Webservices and using it in a multithreaded way.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Working and Creating Templates for Standardization. We use Complex Templates white over 7000 Expressions in combination with white PTS and Or and rule-stream for quick and Standard construction processes. In addition, we use a lot of custom nxprene programs to create automatic drawings and the CAM part, and after that, the NC files and a lot of other data for automatic production in combination with white Teamcenter.

Pros

  • Very good and open API.
  • Good Teamcenter instigation.
  • Good Customization options.

Cons

  • Use expressions for tolerance.
  • A simple way to use Nx via NXopen in web services.
  • Multithreading in Nxopen.

Likelihood to Recommend

It works well fine for Customization and automation. It works well for creating complex templates in Combination with white PTS and/or rules team. It helps a lot with the digitization and standardization process. There are some limits in the API. There is no easy way to create web services and using the nxopen API.
