Overall Satisfaction with NX CAD

We needed a CAD platform that works with the Siemens tool chain, that supports basic 3D modelling functionality, offers import and export capability for other types of CAD software, such as CATIA v5, SOLIDWORKS and PTC Creo etc, at the same time, offers the linked other properties, like mass, material, possibly further simulation functionalities.

Pros

  • 3D modelling
  • Mass property analysis
  • Sizing and tolerencing

Cons

  • Sizing and tolerence
  • Better coordinate system creation tool with mass property
  • Ability to configure product/assembly structure upon import
  • Teamcenter integration
  • jt export functionality
  • Rendering and visualisation
  • easy to import from other CAD
  • Supports the digital information flow
  • Enables 3D modelling and visualisation
  • Enabled models from other CAD format to be imported
NX CAD is very good for interoperability between different three dimensional modelling softwares, it can convert to .jt models, from native format such as .CATPart, .CATProduct, and ones from SOLIDWORKS. Also it is integrated to Siemens Teamcenter, which also enables other downstream workflow, such as Tecnomatix Process Simulate. Other software packages would need more integration effort to make this possible.

Do you think NX CAD delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with NX CAD's feature set?

Yes

Did NX CAD live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of NX CAD go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy NX CAD again?

Yes

NX CAD is very good when it comes to three dimensional modelling and rendering and visualization. Furthermore, the export to jt function together with import into other Siemens software packages, such as Teamcenter, is a major reason why I am using NX. However, it can be a little more computationally expensive compare to other CAD packages.
