I work at a University with multiple campuses and each campus has multiple communication rooms. We currently use Tripp Lite SmartPro in all our communication rooms as these rooms are not on any other sort of enterprise building UPS. We use the SmartPro as they have been found to be reliable from our testing and have the ability to provide alerting of power outages.
  • Provide power during an outage.
  • Send alerts on power failure.
  • No issues. It provides power which is the one job required of the device.
It is well suited for remote rooms where having alerts on power failure is helpful for reporting. It is also well suited for situations where having a display on the UPS is useful, such as knowing the estimated running time. Those two scenarios are very useful to us which is why we prefer the Smart Ups series.
  • Providing clean power on power outage.
  • Display with estimated runtime.
  • Email alerting.
  • The positive impact as we were able to identify when a power outage was the reason for remote sites going offline without having to physically check devices.
  • Having a UPS meant we were able to keep the servers and switches operational as well as end-users avoiding downtime.
  • Schneider Electric Smart-UPs and formerly from APC
APC worked similarly to Tripp Lite and I personally have no preference from a technical standpoint. We however went with Tripp Lite as they had the better customer service.

We use Tripp Lite SmartPro UPS for over 50 communications closets that have an average of 2-3 switches each. We needed a device that could keep power going for around 15 minutes as we have regular power outages for that usually last less than 1 minute. We also needed to send an email alert whenever it lost power.
  • Provides power during outages so my devices stay online
  • Sends email alerts on power failures
  • No issues, product does the job it needs to do
We use it in our many communication closets at our various locations and it does the job it needs to do by providing power during an outage and keeping devices online. It is also great as it sends email alerts on power failure and power resumption that get sent directly to our helpdesk system to track outages for reporting purposes.
  • Provides clean power to devices
  • Email alerting
  • A positive impact as devices are kept online during outages preventing accidental damage from surges on power resumption.
  • Automated emails track power outages saving time for us not having to manually document each outage.
  • Schneider Electric Smart-UPs and formerly from APC
We also used APC in the past, but in our last refresh moved to Tripp Lite SmartPro. Performance-wise, APC did the job the same as the Tripp Lite SmartPro, but we had issues with APC local vendors and APC support, in general, so we decided to switch to another brand, which ended up with us using Tripp Lite SmartPro.

I was working as an operations manager for a medium-sized managed service provider. We almost exclusively used Tripp Lite SmartPro UPSs on all of our clients' servers and network equipment. We struggled for a while with cheaper options burning out on us or failing quite frequently but since moving to Tripp Lite SmartPro we have had a very consistent performance.
  • Lifetime Cost.
  • Reliability.
  • Keep things powered on.
  • I really can't think on any.
In our experience, Tripp Lite SmartPro has been a really strong solution in almost all areas and all businesses we support. The only thing that comes to mind that might make this solution less desirable would be for a small business with a very simple IT Setup not being able to justify the cost of a more robust UPS.
  • Reliability.
  • Longevity.
  • Keeping equipment safe.
  • It has been positive for us as we seem to get a much longer life out of these, more so than other solutions.
  • Keep our business critical machines up and protected.
