A great tool for non-standard use cases
Overall Satisfaction with Anaplan
We leverage Anaplan to implement connected planning solutions. The particular use cases that Anaplan caters to are wide and, quite honestly, limitless. Anaplan thrives most with use cases that are highly complex, change frequently, and cannot be addressed via standard out of the box technology solutions. Tasks such as budgeting, forecasting, data transformation & tracking, and scenario/what if analysis, are along among bread and butter cases for Anaplan.
Pros
- Continuous Improvement: Anaplan is dedicated to furthering the capabilities of its platform through new releases like its new Anaplan Data Orchestrator feature.
- Scalable: The tool is agile and can consistently be reconfigured according to both internal and external process changes. Any new additions (something simple like a new column in a dataset, or something larger, like a new level of the hierarchy) can be reconfigured within the tool.
- Business Owned: The tool is ultimately something that can be owned and managed by the business, with minimal support after implementation.
Cons
- Anaplan Optimizer: I would like to see a version 2 of the optimizer functionality which steers more in the direction of statistical forecasting and allows for additional configuration options, particularly as it pertains to multivariate analysis. functionality is
- Requires Dedicated Expertise: Although the opportunity to own a tool as a business is indeed a valuable opportunity, it does take dedicated training and time in the platform to truly realize the benefits and be comfortable in the system. This is a non-zero amount of time on a business persona that should be factored in to steady state responsibilities going forward.
- High Licensing Costs: Anaplan is expensive. This should be considered as a factor when considering adopting the tool as a business. Ensure there are tangible ways to understand what the investment in the platform will return for you as a business.
- Anaplan has allowed for countless reduction of hours spent on administrative, highly time consuming, and manual planning tasks. This has enabled the team to now leverage tools to perform more detailed analysis.
- Version Control: No more siloed versions of the same information can expedite reporting processes and facilitate tighter, more quickly aligned decision making.
- Licensing costs are a consideration YoY and should be factored in when conducting ROI analysis.
