Overall Satisfaction with Anaplan

We currently use Anaplan as part of our forecasting and budgeting processes, as well as some peripheral finance planning use cases (such as long range planning). Anaplan is used regularly by the finance team on a quarterly cadence, for the above use cases. The planning itself takes place withing Anaplan, and is then integrated downstream with other reporting platforms.

Pros

  • Auditability / traceability - formula drill downs and input hisotries
  • Customization - It is an open box in terms of modeling
  • Connectivity between models - Very easy to move data between Anaplan models, allowing for easier to scale connective planning

Cons

  • Cube size limits - Unless using Polaris, it can be cumbersome to manage composite/concatenated lists to combat many (or large) dimensions
  • No ALM for the UX - There does not exist a way to push app changes (without manually copying duplicates of pages and repointing them) from a Dev environment to a UAT/PROD environment. Any published changes will be displayed across any models they are connected to, with no Dev/UAT/PROD considerations.
  • Planning process standardization
A lot of this depends on how the models & Apps are set up. If done correctly, they can be very easy to use & helpful. If not, it can feel clunky & disjointed/difficult to use. The overall modeling & UX usability are nice to have, though I wouldn't expect pixel perfect UX reporting.

Do you think Anaplan delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Anaplan's feature set?

Yes

Did Anaplan live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Anaplan go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Anaplan again?

Yes

Well suited for financial planning, or connected planning that involves multiple teams/departments.

It may be more challenging to use Anaplan if a planning process is continually changing on a fundamental level. Though Anaplan could be leveraged in these cases to better help standardize processes while still keeping them somewhat flexible.
