Overall Satisfaction with Apptio Cloudability

We use it to manage all of our savings plans and RIs. We also use it for right-sizing opportunities and we use it to graph those optimization efforts to show the cost going down as optimization changes are happening.
  • It shows the visibility into the cost and a single pane of glass for all of our cloud providers, multiple products in those multi-cloud. So it shows us our spending across the cloud by vendor, by product, and by all the tags that we have in the cloud. So it gives us visibility into many different directions in our cost.
  • For me, it is a lot of anomaly detection and I think there's a lot of improvement that can be made to show anomalies that happen over time because if it's just day to day or week to week, you may not see the change. But if you see the trend over a period of time, show me something that has grown 40%, 50% over the past three months and maybe you can do those things and we just haven't figured them out yet. So we are very new to the product, but I think anomaly detection for me is one of the bigger things.
  • Cloudability gave us 10 times our return on investment within three months of implementing it. So right-sizing, finding zombie instances, closing accounts that were never used, that we didn't need. It paid for itself 10 times over.
I think you still have to have a lot of cloud knowledge and education to use probably any tool. So if my mom could use it, I'd give it a 10.
We use TotalCost. Because Cloudability pulls in the big four or five cloud vendors, TotalCost brings in all of our cloud vendors that are even outside of AWS, Google, GCP, and OCI. So we get to see all of our total cost and then you can do your margin by product, by data center, by cloud vendor. So yes, you can do your margin analysis with TotalCost. We can see not only on a single pane of glass, our big cloud vendors, but with TotalCost we can see all of our cloud costs. So anything that falls outside of Azure, GCP, OCI, AWS, we still get that cost pulled into TotalCost, as well as we connect in our revenue by customer, by product, and do margins and custom goods sold in total cost.

Do you think Apptio Cloudability delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Apptio Cloudability's feature set?

Yes

Did Apptio Cloudability live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Apptio Cloudability go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Apptio Cloudability again?

Yes

I think if you are maybe small in your cloud spend and you're only in one cloud, I think you can probably get away with just using the cost management tool in that cloud vendor. I don't think it's necessary for everyone and I think you have to have enough optimizations to have your return on investment, but it's certainly suited if you plan to grow and you're still small, get it now and don't wait.
