Overall Satisfaction with ApptioOne

We use ApptioOne to help our organization manage IT costs. It helps us bridge Finance, IT, and Business, to try to have a common language that all can understand. We map costs from General Ledger in the financial systems, to IT infrastructure elements, on to applications and business services.

  • Generating optimization insights
  • Administration support tools. It is difficult keeping track of relationships and allocation rules, e.g. dependencies between tables.
  • Some inconsistencies in the user interface for administrators: in some cases, there is no type-ahead and one has to scroll down to find the desired item. This could be more user-friendly
We have automated some of the monthly data loads. We are working towards doing the same with some more, eventually all of them. This depends a lot on the data sources. Modeling is very powerful, once you get the hang of it. We have to build a sophisticated model for applications, to overcome the issue of recursion (multiple dependencies). We have expanded the reporting for the Business Units to include their custom business domains. This has helped us a lot with adoption.
  • We provide insights for application optimization. This allowed optimizing the cost of a set of applications by about 10%
  • We support external benchmarking with a consultancy company
Our tickets and consultations are usually answered very quickly, and we get a diagnosis and proposals for solutions where appropriate.
  • Cloudability
We considered using Cloudability during 2021, however, we decided against it. We deployed a test environment for some months, during which I became acquainted with most of the product's features.
We selected the product back in 2015 when the market was different. I have no references these days.

ApptioOne is very powerful. It supports an almost unlimited combination of allocation strategies, with multiple metrics. This allows us to generate insights that are well appreciated by our stakeholders. It is relatively straightforward changing the configuration, and the system offers some tools to ensure that no undesired effects show up. The reporting engine is also excellent.
