Overall Satisfaction with Azure Virtual Desktop
Windows Virtual Desktop has a couple of main uses in our organization.
- The first use explored was to provide existing curriculum materials and software from Windows devices on to the explosion of growth in the use of Chromebooks.
- Second was to be able to provide a truly robust experience for students to learn the intricacies of using higher end software that requires 3d Acceleration such as the Autodesk or Adobe Creative Suites.
- Finally, it allowed a quick transition for our pandemic related learning at home.
- Extend the on-prem experience to the cloud.
- Purpose built access.
- Cost-effective 3d workloads.
- Requiring double sign-on.
- More integration with single sign-on.
- Consistent experience between web and RDP clients.
- Web based access.
- Security Group based app access.
- 3D acceleration.
- Provided access to students while on remote schooling in a short time period.
- Increases existing software licensing reach and cost per device.
- 3d Acceleration servers are very pricey and need to be monitored closely.
Azure Lab Services is excellent for small scale classes but once you reach a particular density or need to serve entire school or district level resources you need to move into WVD.
