Overall Satisfaction with Azure Virtual Desktop

Windows Virtual Desktop has a couple of main uses in our organization.

  1. The first use explored was to provide existing curriculum materials and software from Windows devices on to the explosion of growth in the use of Chromebooks.
  2. Second was to be able to provide a truly robust experience for students to learn the intricacies of using higher end software that requires 3d Acceleration such as the Autodesk or Adobe Creative Suites.
  3. Finally, it allowed a quick transition for our pandemic related learning at home.
  • Extend the on-prem experience to the cloud.
  • Purpose built access.
  • Cost-effective 3d workloads.
  • Requiring double sign-on.
  • More integration with single sign-on.
  • Consistent experience between web and RDP clients.
  • Web based access.
  • Security Group based app access.
  • 3D acceleration.
  • Provided access to students while on remote schooling in a short time period.
  • Increases existing software licensing reach and cost per device.
  • 3d Acceleration servers are very pricey and need to be monitored closely.
Azure Lab Services is excellent for small scale classes but once you reach a particular density or need to serve entire school or district level resources you need to move into WVD.
