Cisco Aironet Access Points Review
Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Aironet and Catalyst Access Points
It’s being used to deliver wireless services across the airport. It integrates with our internet payment gateway and other collaboration technology to deliver a unique customer experience.
Pros
- Wireless connectivity
- Location based identity
- Easy to deploy
Cons
- Outdoor capabilities. We have actually blown up a few outdoor units. Water got inside the outdoor units and had visible rust
- Costs compared to other AP’s in the market. Ruckus and EnGenius work out a bit cheaper
- Mounting options are limited
- Positive ROI. The total value of the investment as compared to the technical services provided is much higher.
- It provides a truly secured infrastructure to enhance our customer experience.
- Cisco allows for on-demand connectivity anywhere on our premises.
Some alternative options were considered and PoC was carried out during the procurement process. Our experience and evaluation basically proved Cisco had the upper hand due to its integration capabilities with other components of the network, such as switching, Routers, Firewalls and our third party internet payment gateway. We have also used EnGenius APs for point to point connections in bridge mode, but again, with security being the main concern, nothing beats Cisco.
