Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst IE3400 Rugged Series Switches
SCADA networks in hydro power plants.
We need high redundant Networks in form of MRP rings together with a DC power Terminal and a signal contact.
We use features like MAB and Dot1x for client authentication and use some switches with additional modules to gain more Ports. The Scope is to connect all industrial controllers to a centralized monitoring station

Pros
- Modulare Cards / additional Modules
- Form Factor / Din Rail mount and DC Power
- The Featureset of modern IT Switches
Cons
- MRP Ring buggy in the beginning
- at least one more SFP Port on base model
- complicated licensing
- Signal Contact
- DC Power
- DIN Mount
- MRP Ring
- It helped passing NIS audits
- It helps the staff to manage more devices than before with same amount of people
- The network automation parts helped non IT guys to do things on their own
We use the DNA center to manage about 1500 switches we do a lot with templating and diffrent sites - the site feature suites our company structure very well - monitoring is done just for the switches - the clients are monitored in a diffrent tool - the golden firmware deployment is a great feature we use
We segment the networks the old way using vlans - we do not do software definded access - the segmentation is a critical part to pass the NIS and NIS2 audits for us - we classify devices in DNA center and in the asset management but we do not enforce segementation based on this info
We do not use cyber vision at the moment but we are looking into it for future deployment
Because we need the better hardware and newer software features - also we need DC Power an DIN Mount features- the longer lifecycle was critical - also we are looking into more advanced extension cards and the cyber vision container to run on the switches itself - is not very important for us.
