We use the 3960 switches at the access layer in user access wiring closets.
- Supports 802.1x authentication
- Fully compatible with ISE
- Reliable
- Will not support high power PoE
- Max PoE is 30 watts and can only support 15 watts on all ports
- Very cost-effective
- With the lifetime warranty their ROI is very high
We have used Cisco ICE to authenticate devices and dynamically assign VLANs.
Management is through the CLI interface. They can also be managed with Cisco Prime and other third-party management software packages like SolarWinds Configuration Manager.
The Cisco switches fit better into outlet overall network design with other Cisco devices and their similar CLI structure was an easy transition for my engineers.
