Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Routers

  • Cisco ISR 4000 Series
  • Cisco ASR 1000 Series
We use the ISR for our branches and the ASR in our data centers. We have more than 50 branches and 12 data centers around the world. We have 2x MPLS networks connecting our branches and data centers and we are using BGP to dynamic routing all our traffic. We also use ASR to receive circuits from our clients in a BPN environment.

Yes. We are using in almost 70% of our branches and 100% of Cisco gear (switches and access points) besides the routers. Our data centers are almost Cisco (routers, firewalls, WSA proxies, switches, UCS servers). One thing that Cisco is doing now and in my opinion is very important is to align with all opensource capabilities from Google (and Google Cloud).
No. We do not use any special security feature from the routers, besides normal ACL and/or prefix lists. We maintain our security by using dedicated firewalls and proxies. We have some old VPNs using routers as concentrators but we are moving from it as well. Besides that, we use the secure part of BGP using PKI.
Cisco Routers are more reliable than all other brands I have used before, mainly regarding data centers. The new architecture of the ASR providing scalability and with all different types of modules you can use in any kind of environment and can solve all needs. We are deploying a new data center using ACI and Cisco Routers and we are very happy with the results.
In my opinion, Cisco Routers are well suited in all scenarios, from small offices to large data centers, Cisco has models to suit in all environments. A note to the new NX-OS code where you can use on DNA Center, or use Python with netconf or restconf to automate various if not all operations and deployments.
