Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have implemented Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery in many enterprise-level companies. Specifically banks and financial companies to mitigate their data loss and compliance their audit requirements. We have deployed across many platforms such as, AIX, AS400, Oracle, SQL, MySQL, Exchange, vmware, Hyper-V, O365, endpoints backup and many cloud storage solutions and virtual environments. Commvault is popular among our customers for disaster recovery options as well, specially vm replication, DB replication, backup replication and backup server failover options. Our customers like Commvault mostly because in a single console they can manage backup and replication and all above mentioned. It's been made easy to use for the administrator and they love it.

Pros and Cons

Everything backup and recovery, replication, endpoints and cloud solutions can be managed by single console.
Having a web console makes it easier to access from anywhere.
Been able to use LAN free backups (using only fiber SAN network).

Recovering emails from app awareness backup of exchange.
Would like to keep using java console instead of using web console.
Does not have any agent for Zimbra mail backup.

Return on Investment

Backup window is less.
No need of another replication software.
Easy migration of virtual machines to different hypervisors.

Alternatives Considered

Veeam Backup & Replication and Veritas Backup Exec

Having a single console to manage all platforms such as backup and replication. Good backup window for servers and different platforms. Deduplication and compression ratio is also much better. Scheduling options and operation window options makes easier to customize the backup window or mitigate the impact on live systems from backup process.

Support Rating

After opening a ticket online usually we get a phone call from an engineer within 2 hours. After giving a remote session to them they can sort it out within minutes or they will ask you for some time to analyze logs. However usually a support ticket can be closed within one business day.

It is well suited to use with customers like banks and finance companies because Commvault is capable of catering all backups, replication and compliances. If the customer is looking only for replication then they should not go for Commvault. People should carefully select the licenses by talking to the vendor so that they can help them for their environment.
