Overall Satisfaction with Control-M
We will use Control-M as an automation tool to orchestrate and manage data workflows across different source systems. Control-M is very user friendly we are able to schedule and run our workflows and it also helps us to notify when ever we encounter a failure
Pros
- Control -M is a very good interface where users can easily schedule the jobs
- Control-M is useful to easily inter connect our down stream jobs and executes it in batch wise without custom scripts
- Control-M helps us to load historical data and jobs can be ran across linux and windows
Cons
- In Control-M, it is difficult to check job history and also cloning the workflows is very complex
- In Control-M, creation of jobs and folders using json code is not user friendly.
- Control-M is great for batch wise scheduling jobs but not for real time workflows
- It automates 80 % of our manual job scheduling tasks across cloud
- It reduced new workflow deployment time from 2-3 days to less than 2 hours using Automation API
- It also reduced scheduling errors and significant cost reduction
2000 - Control-M has reduced our month end closing time by 1 to 2 days by timely workflow execution and it automates error notification when ever we have a failure over the workflows. Control-M has reduced manual intervention over the batch cycles. It also reduced our revenue loss due to delayed updates over the batch job execution
We need end to end automation, so using Control-M we can achieve this but by using Azure Automation it automates data pipelines across the cloud. Compared to Autosys, Control-M has more advanced and modern UI and simple job life cycle management. When compared with Apache Airflow, Control-M has provided better scheduling of jobs and easier to integrate
