Overall Satisfaction with Cube Planning
We use Cube Planning to unlock the latent potential of our FP&A team. Cube freed dozens of hours that used to be dedicated to monthly reporting to instead provide deeper insights into the business. The scope of our Cube usage includes internal/external financial reporting, KPI tracking, and forecast & scenario analysis.
Pros
- Push/pull information across any Google Sheet or Excel workbook.
- Budget at a much more granular level (by month by account by the department by vendor).
- Custom mapping to allow for multiple cuts of the same data.
- Bulk range selection within a workbook.
Cons
- Missing suppress zeros functionality in both the data exporter and the spreadsheet add-on.
- It can be clunky to set up new ranges.
- It does not aggregate segmented data well. We still pull/calculate those separately.
- Not sure if this is a fair critique, but I will always want it to work faster.
- Can fetch/publish from any spreadsheet.
- It is easy to map data based on custom reporting.
- It has provided financial transparency to budget owners and enabled the organization to better scale the business.
- Freed up the FP&A team to provide input on business objectives.
Cube is kind of like "Hyperion-lite." It offers many of the same functionalities (from an analyst's perspective) and is in fact better for a smaller team that wants to own administration over the reporting cube as well. Cube is a much better option for a leaner team.
