Overall Satisfaction with Dell PowerEdge R
We use a Dell PowerEdge R as the primary storage server in our organization, as well as a SQL server. It is used across the whole organization and maintains the integrity of all data, providing shared drives for access by approximately 1,000 users.
Pros
- The servers are stable
- The servers are fault tolerant
- The servers are easily managed via IPMI
- The servers are easily upgraded and maintained
Cons
- I would like to see expanded use of AMD processors across the range
- I would like to see more storage options for NVME disks
- I would like to see improved memory compatibility
- Low power consumption means lower running cost
- Stability and longevity mean the machines ROI is high
- Ease of upgradeability and maintenance are positives for ROI
- Smaller businesses may not benefit from the cost of the machines
I have had experience with these other servers (not listed) and had a better experience with the Dell:
IBM System X
HP DL380
Huawei RH2288V2
