Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight

Our boss replaced his AutoCAD 2000 with this because he can customize his shortcuts/icons and it is cheap. He and I use it. It allows us to continue design work without purchasing an expensive new license of AutoCAD.
  • Cheap
  • Replaces AutoCAD
  • 1:1 plotting does NOT work 1:1. It's about 1:0.96
  • Negative ROI because I have been unable to eliminate my obsolete version of AutoCAD due to issues with scale in DraftSight.
DraftSight met our requirements of being inexpensive and the boss' very particular need to use his shortcuts that he was accustomed to using in AutoCAD. He's happy, and if the boss is happy, everyone is happy.
Except for the plotting issue. The product doesn't fare well for me and is unacceptable. Oh well.
1:1 full scale printing does not print 1:1 full scale. It prints about 1:0.96. We MUST have EXACTLY 1:1 for our templates. For this reason, I am extremely disappointed. However, my boss uses it very effectively, and interestingly, his prints exactly 1:1. Our settings are the same, plotter is the same plotter, not similar, but the very same plotter. He loves it; I hate it.
