Small business limited use
Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight
We are a relatively small firm and have a periodic need for 2D drafting for components. This program has all the functionality to help us communicate with our suppliers and companies who produce after market parts no longer available for machinery which is no longer produced. Verta Corporation services, repairs, and certifies building maintenance units BMUs (Window Rigs) and some manufacturers are no longer around. Many of our clients benefit from the extended lifespan we provide for their new or existing equipment. When the bottom line counts, they count on us, and we count on software like DraftSight. We use DraftSight because it is the best price and works for all of our current and future needs. One drawback is there are separate licences for each user. Still a great value!
Pros
- Communication tool for detailed drawings of manufactured assemblies.
- Able to convert files to PDF to send to clients and suppliers who do not have CAD software.
- The ability to add text and/or dimensions to an underlay drawing and send it out to anyone has been of great value.
- Multiple layering for different items in a detail drawing like dimensions, electrical, mechanical, and hidden or reference lines to turn on and off in freeze frame is great.
Cons
- Can sometimes require effort to change the scale of dimensions and select all of them to change font size.
- 2D has its limitations, we have not used 3D yet and a version with similar cost would be better.
- The renewal process could have been smoother.
- I do not deal with the ROI and consider this good value for the money.
- AutoCAD mobile (formerly AutoCAD 360)
Easier to use, better value, too.
