Overall Satisfaction with ExpressionEngine
Expression Engine is used as an option for building new client websites on a flexible CMS platform. It is used by the developers when building new sites and then we train our client on how to use the CMS for making updates on their own website.
Pros
- Expression Engine is flexible so you can mold it to your specific needs. This is useful because you can utilize the platform for all your projects and continually improve on it and re-purpose features that you've built out.
- It's extremely user friendly so clients love it!
Cons
- As a Project Manager working with great developers, I never had any complaints with the way the CMS was built out. It was always really simple for me to work with.
- Increased efficiency - it allows for very quick updating of news, press releases, photo libraries, and other new content. You don't need to prep and request updates from a developer because so much content can be managed by project coordinators, project managers, or account managers. Also, the client has the opportunity to make their own updates!
- Open Source - secure, reliable, and quickly evolves.
Expression Engine is certainly for more advanced website development than a templated site such as WordPress or SquareSpace. But for this reason, it allows you to have freedom in the creation of your website and still maintain a very user-friendly management system. It is not cost prohibitive, so if you have the development chops, it's a sure fire way to build a solid website.
