Overall Satisfaction with F5 BIG-IP DNS

We use F5 BIG-IP DNS for DNS resolutions. We used to have Infoblox for DNS queries and with Infoblox as our environment grew, there were resource issues. We had users complaining about DNS queries taking lot of time. With Infoblox, service used to restart nightly at 10pm. When we moved to F5 BIG-IP DNS, nightly restart was addressed.

Pros

  • DNS Caching
  • DNS Response Time
  • Stability

Cons

  • Instead of purchasing separate DNS appliance, would like to see a containerized LTM with DNS
  • Service restart was addressed which we had with previous DNS solution
I have used BIG-IP LTM and find it very easy to use, specially if it has GUI/TMI access.

  • We are using route domains to micro segment the traffic.
  • We plan to add this DNS in future to R-series so we don’t have to have a physical big ip DNS appliance.
  • We plan to add it to R-series as a tenant.
We used to use Infoblox and we had issues with DNS resolutions time to time. We haven’t come across any major issues so far since we started to use F5-DNS.
