Overall Satisfaction with FactSet Workstation

We use FactSet as our main portfolio analytics and report tool, with access to live pricing, benchmarks, and commonly used ratios to report to our advisors and clients/prospective clients about the strategies we manage. In addition, we use FactSet for investment research, earnings reports transcripts and calls, and access to analyst reports.

Pros

Cons

  • Support turnarounds on new features sometimes backlogged
  • Occasional connection issues
  • Confusing file storage system
  • We were able to end contracts with a few vendors because FactSet provided everything we need for stock screening, modeling, and analytics directly saving us capital that could be repurposed elsewhere
  • Having a an all in one system that does everything speeds up training and learning curve for users
  • Cheaper than main competitor Bloomberg
It is a great product that is constantly being improved based on user feedback but it still is working to make the directory system more user friendly. Sometimes searching through data bases takes longer than it should but ultimately the product gets the jobs done and it seems like the service team really cares about having our needs met.
Product is magnitudes more affordable and provides 80% of the functionality that Bloomberg has and is working to build out the remaining. The workstation is more user friendly than bloomberg but still not perfect. Not as robust as a Bloomberg Terminal and doesn't have the chat/trading features.

If a client or prospective client is looking for anything other than strictly performance and holdings which can be found in their statements, FactSet enables us to answer questions about portfolio attribution and characteristics in a fast and easy to explain way for them. If a member of our client service, advisor, or outside vendor requests any data at all about the portfolio that it needs to distribute or publish, FactSet has the tools to provide that for them but sometimes it is not so straightforward how to obtain that information.
