Overall Satisfaction with GrabCAD Workbench

Every product-focused company needs a centralized database of its 3d models. GrabCAD is the entry-level product data management system to rev control your models and drawings. You can check out and check the files to create different versions, so your whole team can have one source of truth.
  • GrabCAD is the source of truth for the files being used
  • GrabCAD is free
  • Easy to use and get started
  • Doesn't plug in to windows explorer
  • Finding rev history is not intuitive
  • Hard to navigate spaces, each folder needs to be separately shared
  • Rev control
  • Source of truth
  • Free
  • It can get complicated to keep things correct as more and more people use it
  • You will need to switch over to a new system as you grow other systems like PLM
SOLIDWORKS PDM is great because it is connected with your windows explorer, so you can guarantee that you will get the most recent version of the file. You need to remember to regularly update your files when using GrabCAD. SOLIDWORKS PDM has a more useful interface, where you can see previews, find BOMs, and view configurations without opening any files or checking them out. GrabCAD was chosen as a starting point to get the team started and familiar with a PDM system with the intention that another PDM would be chosen at a later date

Do you think GrabCAD Workbench (discontinued) delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with GrabCAD Workbench (discontinued)'s feature set?

Yes

Did GrabCAD Workbench (discontinued) live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of GrabCAD Workbench (discontinued) go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy GrabCAD Workbench (discontinued) again?

Yes

If you are looking for a free PDM to get your team started, GrabCAD is a good place to start. Once you start having many employees and complex assemblies, you will want to find another solution that seamlessly integrates with your other systems (like PLM or ERP). To my knowledge, GrabCAD doesn't do that.
