Overall Satisfaction with IBM Apptio
We are using TBM Studio, CTC, Cloudability, CSA, Appito BI, and Target Process.
We have a multi-year contract with IBM and leveraging aforementioned products for cloud cost monitoring and spend optimization. A couple of different reports and dashboards have been created that are being used for cost monitoring. We are feeding in our cloud cost data, our internal job usage details to integrate both to have more granular details.

Pros
- We are able to integrate multiple sources of data to have a comprehensive view of our spend.
- We are able to get more detailed insights via container dashboard for kubernetes spend
- A unified platform to manage overall cloud spend along with related FinOps spend
Cons
- Container dashboard should allow multiple tables to be created in a dashboard - currently restricted to one
- Engineering support team should have more capability to identify the Root cause of the problem. I have encountered multiple instances where team is not able to provide the RCA for the issue occured, even when the issues had multiple occurances, the team was not able to provide us with the RCA
- We would like to see the progress on AI capabilities in apptio
- FOCUS dataset nomenclature is still missing in Apptio environment
- Acceleration of ad hoc analysis - although it is a good tool for us to track daily cost reporting (with expected 2 days of delay). But, Recently we've encountered heavy delays that has impacted our overall analysis timeline.
- Unified view of our Cloud cost and Snowflake cost and Internal Job cost on a single platform
- Granular insights for container workloads is available at Cloudability.
With the Rightsizing recommendations, we are getting those when the apptio system is only considering CPU utilization, but our system is Memory intensive. The recommendations are not considering the Memory usage and hence there are a lot of False positives for us in the recommendations we are receiving from apptio.
