Overall Satisfaction with IBM Apptio
In our organization, we use IBM Apptio for Cost Transparency and ITP. Currently, outside of Apptio, we did not have a system to deliver project accounting results to our business partners. We utilize CT to transform source data, model it out, and integrate with ITP planning. ITP is a solution for end users to replace spreadsheets for planning. It also provides a single source of the truth having all of data under one platform.

Pros
- Data integration
- Automation
- Data transformation
- Allows for analysis to action
Cons
- I think there is room for improvement in IBM Apptio because, in my opinion, the ITP (IT Planning) interface a bit clunky
- BI reporting is not on par with competing BI software from other firms
- Navigating through ITP to create custom views can be inefficient
- Reporting platform could use a revamp to compete with other software
- Acceleration of the planning process
- Controlled environment
- Automation
- Project Accounting
We bring our source data into Apptio via Data Link and run data transformation and validation. We run an allocation model to spread our costs to the appropriate data segments. Once we have the output from CT, we run the integration to bring in Actual and all reference tables into ITP to facilitate the forecasting/planning process at the level of detail required for project accounting. We do have internal reporting within Apptio but unsure whether it is satisfactory for executive level dashboards.
